The Iao Valley offers great hiking, swimming and sightseeing in a lush tropical setting. It's hours are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m Iao Valley State Monument provides an excellent view of Iao Needle, a single spire rising 1200 feet above the valley. The "Needle" has long been a place of pilgrimage for Hawaiians. Centuries ago, royalty was buried in the valley in secret graves. |

In ancient times Wailuku was a favoured place for the inhabitants of Maui who maintained two Heiau (temples) on the hills above. It was easy to spot intruders and villages grew up around the temples. |

Picturesque Kaahumanu congregational Church, named after Queen Kaakhumanu, is Maui's oldest church. With a lofty white spire it is the area's most dramatic manmade landmark. |

Many of this Wailuku's old buildings have been preserved with their wooden facades intact. Wailuku has some of the best and most inexpensive restaurants in Maui. |
