Cayman Brac Vacation Rentals - Holiday Lodging

Every place is home to somebody and Cayman Brac was the rumored lodging of Edward Teach, the infamous Blackbeard. About 90 miles east of Grand Cayman, "the Brac", as the locals call the middle island of the Caymans, was occupied by pirates in the early 1800's and Teach spent a lot of time here.

With more than 170 caves honeycombing the limestone bluff (or 'Brac' in Gaelic) treasure has been rumored to have been buried here. Although most of the big caves, such as Great Cave, have been pretty thoroughly explored, you never know what you will find in the smaller ones. There are no actual towns on the island, only settlements, like Stake Bay, Spot Bay, the Creek, Tibbets Turn, the Bight and West End, all of which are located near the airport. Most of the Brackers live on the north side in picturesque seaside cottages. Most of the accommodations such as a vacation rental house or a condo rental are available there. More condo rentals are to be available soon. As well, more accommodation is being planned with condo rental, vacation rentals, villa rentals all coming on line.

The Brac has some night life but it is mostly the island itself that people come to see. Spelunking, hiking and exploring are the order of the day here. To truly get a feel for the island, take one of the guided nature tours offered by Cantrell Scott and Keino Daley, government tour guides. With the increase in accommodations these guys are getting busy so book ahead.

More and more scuba divers are getting vacation rentals here all the time. The scuba diving on Cayman Brac is rated as perhaps the best in the Caribbean, with about 50 prime dive sites. The frigate Captain Keith Tibbets was sunk as a dive site in September of 1966. This former Russian frigate lies 180 feet offshore on the northwest side. Rental equipment is available.

Being much smaller than Grand Cayman, where most of the villa rentals and other vacation rentals are, there is somewhat limited accommodation available. None the less, the open friendliness of the Brackers draws people here time and again. The limited night life, rather than being a drawback, is what is one of the prime attractions of this wonderful island. Every vacation rental or villa rental here is going to make you more and more relaxed.
