Bienvenidos!
La Ceiba is a lively port city on the northern coast of Honduras in Central America. It is located on the southern edge of the Caribbean. It is surrounded by lush jungles, breathtaking mountains, challenging rivers, and intriguing beaches.
The city has been officially proclaimed the "Eco-Tourism Capital of Honduras" as well as the ‘Entertainment Capital of Honduras’.
La Ceiba, Honduras is a friendly city, with that "small town" feel. Ecotours, river rafting, Garifuna villages, and mountain treks are what La Ceiba is all about. Lying along the beautiful Western Caribbean shore, La Ceiba Honduras provides an interesting cultural mix and is the closest mainland city to the Bay Islands
La Ceiba is reputed to be the tourism capital of Honduras, due to its Caribbean beaches, sparkling villas, active night life, and a variety of parks and recreational areas in and around the city. Another factor contributing to the city's tourism is the city ferry service to the Bay Islands. Ferries from La Ceiba offer daily service to the main islands of Utila and Roatan. Accommodations are available for overnight visits on Roatan, you may choose from villa rentals and beach house vacation rentals.
Yearly, on the third or fourth Saturday of May, the city holds its famous carnival to commemorate Isidore the Laborer (Spanish San Isidro Labrador). During this time, the city is host to approximately 500,000 tourists. During the week of "Carnaval", different neighborhoods in La Ceiba organize dances and celebrations that last all night. They host live music, there are a few carnival-type games, and plenty of food and drink, all adding up to the festive atmosphere. Carnival culminates by morphing into an even bigger carnival called "Gran Carnaval de la Amistad", which is when San Isidiro Street turns into a huge dance, with local musical bands and colorful floats.
La Ceiba is nicknamed "The Capital of Ecotourism", with its diverse natural offerings. Among the many popular areas, the imposing Pico Bonito (Beautiful Peak) stands at 2,435 meters. The Pico Bonito's tropical rain forest provides indescribable tropical waterfalls and spectacular landscapes.
There is lots to do, take advantage of this rainforest. Sadly, they are disappearing fast. Walk amongst pristine waterfalls and towering mahogany trees bordering the Pico Bonito National Forest. Hike in a tropical paradise taking in magical views, experience the Cangrejal River with white water rafting, or explore a lush "glide along through nature" on a zip-line.
