North Holland Accommodations

“Welkom in Nederland.” Welcome to The Netherlands. Arriving at Schiphol airport, you are in the province of Noord Holland. Surrounded by water with the sandy beaches of the North Sea from the West and the Ijsselmer from the East, you can see the whole province in one day’s time. Experience all North Holland has to offer; take your time, and stay awhile. Vacation rental accommodations – an apartment condo rental or holiday-home villa rental accommodations - are perfect for your European holidays. A villa rental with lodging accommodation for small or large groups is a great choice for vacation rentals.

The Rijksmuseum has masterpieces of the Golden Age including the famous Night Watch. See the life of Vincent Van Gogh unfold before your eyes at the Vincent Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, with more than 200 paintings and over 400 drawings. More can be found at the Kröller-Müller Museum in Otterlo. Along with the sculpture garden that is part of a 75 acre forest, this makes for a very pleasant and relaxing day. Strolling through Amsterdam, stop at a café for a beer or coffee and mingle with the friendly Dutch. Experience first-hand what “feest” means; head to the Bar 't Doktertje on a Friday or Saturday night. “It’s party time!”

Windmills and farm houses dot the landscape of flat green polders with hundreds of canals in the surrounding Waterland and Zaan region. Visit Edam or Volendam. Enjoy a leisurely stroll through Marken. Formerly an island, it has unique colourful wooden houses. Amsterdam’s satellite modern-day cities are elegant and quiet. Pick up groceries at the local shops and prepare meals in the kitchen of your accommodations. Vacation rentals have all that you need to feel at home. The city of Hilversum has some interesting modern architecture: the folded concrete forms of the Villa VPRO, the half-buried perfect cube of the Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision wrapped in colourful cast-glass panels.

Villages established during the Dutch Golden Age are found in the West Friesland area. Join the three ship boys - De Scheepsjongens van Bontekoe - at the harbour wall of Hoorn. Hoorn was the departure point for the Dutch East India Company at the time of Holland’s Golden Age. The explorer, Corneliszoon Schoulton, sailed around South America in 1616, and named Cape Hoorn in honour of his home town. As early as 1365, there was a weighing house for cheese in the town of Alkmaar. The Alkmaar cheese market takes place on the Waagplein every Friday morning from mid-April to mid-September. A deal is struck when the merchants clap hands, the handjeklap system. Villa rentals in restored farmhouse manors or condo rentals in a town make you feel at home. The island of Texel – pronounced as Tessel in Dutch - is also part of North Holland. With approximately one-third being a nature reserve, enjoy Texel by walking, biking or horseback riding.

Photos of vacation rental accommodations - chalets, cabins, condo rentals, apartment rental accommodation – are a mouse-click away. Sea-side villa rentals, or villas in the countryside, can be seen at the easy-to-navigate website of Owner Direct Vacation Rentals.
