Located in northwest Sonora about 100km from the Arizona border Puerto Penasco is a part of the Altar Desert. Also known as Rocky Point the city is known for it’s clear water and pristine beaches that stretch for miles in either direction. The area was developed for tourism in the early nineties with the addition of an airport and a variety of accommodations including condo rentals, villa rentals, apartment rentals and a variety of other lodging opportunities.

The whole area surrounding Puerto Penasco is a border free zone meaning visitors can drive from the US without having to obtain a visa. Home to an annual fishing festival which occurs in June the area is famous for it’s beautiful light brown sandy beaches and numerous fishing activities. For visitors less enthusiastic about fishing the area also has some great activities including scuba diving where you can view the regions aquatic life, a world class golf course, and markets.

While taking a break from your modern villa rental you can visit other attractions including the CET-MAR Aquarium housing marine life such as turtles, octopus and numerous fish species, the Scientific and Technological Research Center and the Center for Desert Studies.
