Red River Accommodations

For visitors and tourists wanting to spend time in the great outdoors and are looking for vacation rentals, condo rentals, accommodations or other lodging, Red River New Mexico is the place to go. The region is steeped in history. Ute and Jucarilla Apaches fought and raided in the area. Explorers, trappers and prospectors put the city on the map. Hundreds of mines were carved out of the surrounding mountains, mines with names like Black Copper and Silver King. The mines eventually played out, but by that time homesteaders outnumber prospectors and the town grew. It gained new momentum by renting out abandoned mining cabins to visitors seeking refuge from the heat. In the late 1920’s it became known as the “mountain playground” that it is today. With abundant accommodation, condo rental, hotels and vacation rental, Red River is a gateway to outdoor activities.

As the Southwest heats up in the summer, Red River area remains a cool mountain retreat. A variety of outdoor activities beckon, from golfing, white water rafting on the famous Rio Grande to hiking, fishing, biking or even just sitting in the shade and do nothing at all. The Red River area is a must for winter recreation, with downhill skiing in the mountains, tobogganing and other cold weather activities.

North of Red River is the Great Sand Dunes were wind and erosion by water and ice has created an impressive display of volcanic sand. This National Monument covers 55 square miles and provides great hiking trails. Great Sand Dunes Country Club offers a fine 18-hole golf course. Travel south and west to Los Alamos, home of Los Alamos National Laboratory, established in 1943 to develop the first atomic weapon.

The town is known for events in the summer months, like the Classic Car Show, Blues Fest, Oktoberfest, or the Art & Wine Festival there are many exciting activities for visitors and locals alike. Imagine walking out of your vacation rental, vacation home or other accommodation and experiencing mock bank robberies and shootouts at Frye’s Old Town. In the evening, enjoy a chuck wagon style dinner and a western stage show under the stars.

After a day of skiing or hiking you’ll be ready to head back to your vacation rentals and relax with family and friends, or head into town for a spicy New Mexican meal or a romantic dinner for two.
