Ronda, famous for its spectacular location and jaw-dropping views
, is one of a dozen or so of the White Towns of Andalusia. It's a fascinating old Arab town that was built on either side of a deep river gorge named El Tajo. The city sits precariously at the canyon's edge, while three magnificent arched bridges span across the gaping ravine, linking the old and new sections of town.
White-washed hotels with red tiled roofs lean dramatically out over the cliffs. Other popular lodging options in the Ronda area include private vacation rentals, condo rentals, villa rentals and apartment rentals.
Many accommodations have intricate wrought iron balconies, courtyards, terraces and swimming pools.
With a permanent population of about 37,000, Ronda has plenty of restaurants, ice creams shops and even a few familiar fast food chains.
El Cuidad is the older side of town with narrow, winding streets that can feel a bit like a maze. You can wander aimlessly for hours exploring the shops and museums, or you can sit and enjoy the gorgeous Islamic gardens and fountains. If you start to feel a little lost in the snake-like streets, charming local children will be happy to act as your guide for a tiny fee.
Minutes from your accommodations, you will find the Plaza de Toros, one of Spain's oldest and most beautiful bullrings.
You can also visit the fascinating neolithic cave drawings
in the nearby Cueva de la Pileta, or the ancient Baños Árabes (Arab baths) located at the bottom of the gorge. After a day of exploration, you can rest and relax in comfort at your vacation rental, condo rental, villa rental or apartment rental.
Although the magnificent location and riveting views are the main attraction in Ronda, there are also plenty of other activities to enjoy including hiking, archery, rock climbing, paintball, canoeing, canyon walking, birdwatching and 4 x 4 Eco-tours.
The coastal resorts of Costa del Sol are only a short drive away and the city of Magela is just 62 miles to the West.
Either one is an easy side trip from your accommodations.
Both Ernest Hemingway and Orson Welles were infatuated with the one-of-a-kind beauty of Ronda, and Michelle Obama has recently toured the town with her youngest daughter, Sasha. It's the perfect spot for your next holiday with vacation rental accommodations of all types, including villa rentals, condo rentals and apartment rentals.
