Mont Tremblant - A Rendez-Vous with History - Official Tourism Site of Mont Tremblant - Over four thousand years ago, before the arrival of Europeans in the 17th century, Native people lived in and around the "Trembling Mountain" area. ...
At the turn of the 20th century, the choice of the Mont-Tremblant Region as a summer playground increased in popularity. Guesthouses, inns and hotels sprouted up all around. The surrounding forest, the pure mountain air and the striking beauty of the scenery drew wealthy Mountrealers, as well as Americans and Europeans. ...
In 1936, Joe Ryan, a young eccentric American millionnaire was so taken by the scenery at the summit of Mont Tremblant that he decided to build "the biggest ski centre in the East." Three years later, with the indispensable backing of the parish priest Father Deslauriers and the enthusiastic participation of local residents, Joe Ryan's dream became a reality. Mont Tremblant Lodge was inaugurated and the ski resort proved to be an immediate success, particularly with the upper crust of American society. With the onset of the 1950's booming postwar economy, the automobile and a higher standard of living that allowed for more leisure activity, the Laurentians became the playground for middle-class Montrealers and suburbanites. 1991 brought winds of change! Intrawest, the biggest Canadian promoter of alpine resorts announced a significant investment that dramatically thrust the Mont Tremblant Resort into the 21st century. The intuition and vision of Father Labelle and Joe Ryan paid off. Today, Mont-Tremblant is without a doubt a first-class international vacation destination year-round!
Mont Tremblant Resort - Out-There.com - Mont Tremblant resort is located north of Montreal in the Laurentian Mountains. The resort is much like a kingdom, resembling a small European village but with a large cities amenities. This is a cosmopolitan oasis in the middle of a beautiful natural setting. Superb restaurants, quiet bistros, lively bars and fascinating boutiques are all within a short walk of the world class accommodations. While the resort has a heavy French favour it is truly international. English is spoken everywhere, and assistance is available in many languages. It's important to make the distinction between Mont Tremblant Resort (on the mountains south side) and the nearby older village of Mont Tremblant.
The historic village is a short 4km drive from the mountain. There is a path which connects the two, used for cycling or roller blading in the summer and cross country skiing in the winter. The village has recently merged with Ste. Jovite to form the City of Mont Tremblant. Mont Tremblant is considered the premier ski resort in eastern North America. On the mountain in the winter you'll find three separate ski or boarding areas in the form of the Versant Soleil, the Versant Nord and the main area, the Versant Sud. Each is accessible from the main lifts and each has a character all its own. The primary area, the Versant Sud, has a vertical of 649m (2131FT) with 39 trails and 7 lifts including the Gondola. The trails range from the easy 6km (3.75 Mile) Nansen to some wild double diamond steeps at the top of the mountain. The Versant Nord at 315m (1034FT) has a mix of slopes and glades ranging from some gentle runs all the way up to the fierce dips and drops of the Expo. Four lifts, including four high speed quads service the area.

Tremblant in summer is a sensory treasure chest. Crisp mountain air perfumed by freshly baked bread and mighty coffee wafts throughout the colorful pedestrian village-the greens of nature the ideal backdrop for the village's lipstick-red and powder-blue roofs.
This small, contemporary French Canadian resort connects Parc du Mont-Tremblant's wilderness with a string of quintessentially Quebecois villages that stretches 75 miles south to Montreal.
Because Tremblant is built on an incline, exploring the town's two cobblestone streets requires strong legs and lungs. After guests tire of meandering the town's 70 shops, restaurants and galleries, the Cabriolet-a people mover-kindly shuttles them uphill to the slopeside Place St.-Bernard, where visitors and locals congregate on weekends to enjoy the sounds of jamming musicians.

In the early morning, stroll to Vieux-Tremblant, a section in the middle of the village filled with 1940s cottages that were relocated here and turned into restaurants and shops. Sit among the locals at Café Bistro Ryan, the only cottage on its original site, and nibble at a croissant while laying out the day's plans. The cool morning air makes the hours before noon the perfect time to explore Tremblant's ski slopes, located within the Parc du Mont-Tremblant. Ride the gondola into the resort's écoZone, a mountaintop area where you can walk with a naturalist or stroll along a self-interpretation trail to learn more about the region's ecosystem. For a heartier dose of exercise, pick the Les Sommets trail. It's set in the pines, but as you ascend three peaks, the views expand to include lakes, rivers and forests deep in the provincial Parc. Another option is the easy 6-mile bike ride on the linear park to the neighboring village of St.-Jovite. This jaunt takes you through forests and past golfers praying for par on Grey Rocks' new La Bête course.
When your appetite hits high gear, grab a patio table at Antipasto and melt into the street scene. After lunch, bike back to Tremblant to laze on the beach or go sailing. Or, you could play nine on Le Géant. The names hint at each of the area's four courses' personalities. Tremblant owns the award-winning Le Géant and Le Diable. Nearby Grey Rock Resort owns La Belle, a "beautiful" course, and La Bête, which is truly a "beast."
While sipping wine and watching raclette cheese melt on your jambon de Parme at La Savoie, practice your French and ask a local what he'd do while there on vacation. Don't set your sights too high, however, because what you ultimately do depends upon how late you party. With typical French Canadian joie de vivre, things rip in the bars until 3 am.
So, as the locals advise: "Allez-y! C'est cool!" But be sure to rest before you holiday here. Even though your stay might last only five days, if you try to partake in all Tremblant offers, it will feel as if you spent a fortnight.
