Apex Mountain Resort and Mars Speed Races Grab Media Attention
You know your event is a success when you capture the attention of the media. The Mars FIS Downhill and Super-G races at Apex Mountain Resort (February 2 – 5) did just that! The “Penticton Herald”, the “Okanagan Saturday” and the “Penticton Western News” provided great support and coverage throughout the 4 days of racing. Activities at Apex
In under six minutes the high-speed quad chairlift takes you to the top of the mountain. From there you can access 550 acres of magnificent fall-line skiing and boarding on 56 runs spread over 2 mountain faces (Apex and Beaconsfield Peaks). For cross country skiers there are 52km of trails.
Dog Sledding Adventures and a Fountain Tire Tube Park make for extra winter fun. You can relax in one of the outdoor hot tubs or take a turn around the skating rink or the 'Skating Adventure Loop'.
The new Mountainside Lodge houses the Gunbarrel Bar and Restaurant and a variety of other skier services. There is a coffee shop, cafeteria and on-mountain snack hut.
There is a Mountain Shop and Rental Shop.
All amenities are centrally located in this compact village.
Biking at Apex is appealing, not only to the cross country and downhill enthusiasts, but also the less adventurous riders. Old mining roads make it easier to explore the backcountry or you can enjoy single-tracks which take you through meadows and pine forests. Mountain bikes can be taken up the chairlift.
In the summer time Apex offers access to beautiful alpine meadows. Ride the 'Quickdraw' Quad Chairlift up to hike or bike and watch for deer, black bear, coyotes, red-tailed hawks and other wildlife; then ride the lift back down to the village for refreshments, snacks or a full meal.
In keeping with its Wild West theme the Nickel Plate Adventure Company offers summer: trail rides, pony rides, wagon rides and evening activities. For a relaxing day in the mountains try fishing at Nickel Plate Lake. Down in the beautiful Okanagan Valley you have easy access to many fine Golf Courses, boating, winery tours, and beaches.
