Top 5 destinations to view fall foliage in North America

Get ready to enjoy the fall colours

Tuscany, Italy #39339 Canmore, AB #102154 Mont Tremblant, QC #50734 Hockley Valley, SW Ontario #203112

Fall season is the time of the year when I get more comfortable staying inside the house watching movies, baking, cooking or sleeping. Sometimes I could just lie all day on the couch while reading a good book.

But there’s one thing that makes me look forward to this season and want to go outside: getting to view the fall foliage. The changing colours of the leaves, the smell of the trees, and the autumn sky are enough to lift my spirits up and inspire me to get going. It gives me hope, vitality, and zest to continue with life, happily with enthusiasm and passion.

Because of this, I would like to share my top 5 list of destinations in North America which are perfect for viewing fall foliage:

  1. Vermont, USA – Nothing shows a more perfect view of fall foliage in North America than Vermont. To view the beautiful fall foliage scenery in Vermont, follow Route 100 which winds through the middle of Vermont from North to South. While traveling the route, you will also drive through the Green Mountains where some of the best fall scenery in the area can be viewed. Travelers have noted that the best view in Vermont can be seen when you take a trip in the Killington Gondola up to Killington Peak – a journey 4241 feet long.

    Fall foliage in Mont-Tremblant, Quebec

  2. Quebec, Canada – One of the top places to go to have a good view of fall colors in Quebec is from the Laurentian Mountains. This place is found in many top fall foliage destination guides and for a good reason. You should check it out. The Mont Royal Park in Quebec City is a place where you can enjoy a stroll while watching the fall foliage. The beautiful contrast between the skyline of the city and the colors of the trees is indeed eye-catching and very uplifting to the spirits. I love going here again and again. Plus if you have kids, you can have them play and stroll around in the park while you marvel at the beauty of the colorful trees or take pictures of them.
  3. Michigan, USA – The Hiawatha National Forest in Michigan offers an especially spectacular scenery of fall foliage in Michigan. Various places in Michigan are highly advertised in televisions and radio for their natural beauty and scenery, and I could not disagree with it. The place is just beautiful, especially during fall season when the colors of the leaves are especially stunning.
  4. Colorado, USA – When you visit Colorado during fall season, you will find that it has a striking difference to the other places you will visit. Commonly, you’re going to see strong shades of red and oranges but the trees found here give out a striking yellow color which is quite unique. You will still see red and orange trees but a great part is yellow forest which is quite pleasing to the eyes and creates a sense of interest. According to Colorado Parks and Wildlife, you can view fall foliage in Colorado by car, by foot, by bicycle or even by horse.

    Autumn garden in Burnaby, BC

  5. British Columbia, Canada – The West Coast is usually not included in lists when thinking about viewing fall colors. This is because of the abundance of coniferous trees which maintain their green colors throughout the year. But there are great places to view fall colors here. Vancouver is one of these places. Vancouver is a perfect fall getaway destination. Visit Stanley Park, the VanDusen Botanical Gardens and Queen Elizabeth Park where you get the best views of fall foliage. The Okanagan is another great place to visit in BC during the fall season which is also their harvest season. You’ll be welcomed not only by beautiful colors of trees but also by delicious fruits, rolling hills and many wineries to choose from within the area.

Where is your favorite place to visit during the autumn season?

Everyone’s talking about vacation rentals

Everyone's talking about vacation rentals!

Osoyoos, BC #86997 Estepona, Spain #69539 Mount Helix, California #206720 Canmore, Canada #203010

In the past, when people were on vacation, a hotel stay used to be the common choice. While this option is still highly popular today, more and more tourists are raving about another accommodation option instead of a hotel stay, camping or simply staying at a friend or relative’s home: A stay in a vacation rental is growing to be more and more popular, largely due to word of mouth from customers who have tried this option.

See these customer testimonials for example, showing how much guests are loving vacation rentals. There are just too many reasons why people prefer getting a vacation rental over staying in a hotel, camping or staying at a friend’s house.

Avoid expensive hotel rates

First, vacation rental rates are way more affordable compared to those for hotels. You can easily find a vacation rental that has the same high quality facilities as a hotel but does not charge as much. For example, there are plenty of great value condominiums  for rent that will still allow you to enjoy high-end facilities and amenities similar to those in a hotel, without spending as much.

Receive extraordinarily warm customer service

Guests love the customer service they receive, not only from providers of vacation rentals, but also the owners of these vacation rentals which they get to communicate with directly. Guests rave about the excellent customer service and the hassle-free transactions in general. Let’s face it, staff in hotels receive a lot of customers day in and day out and their customer service can get very ordinary. But guests who book with owners of vacation rentals receive extraordinary customer service and warm responses. Owners of rental properties can’t wait to serve another set of guests in their vacation homes. Property owners will ensure that guests have all they need for them to have a great vacation in the home they are renting. Remember, these owners are excited to get new guests, so expect that extra warm customer service!

Have all the SPACE you want!

Have you ever felt so suffocated and space-bound in that room inside the hotel? It’s time to not have to worry about this anymore. Vacation rentals can provide you with all the space you need. Whether you are traveling in a small or large group, you can find the perfect property to rent at a fair price. With vacation rentals, you can get a unit, such as a vacation home for example, that makes you feel right at home. This gives you more enthusiasm and energy on your vacation instead of just lazing around in a small room.

Have a new experience each time

The feeling of being in a new place is great. We all know that! While hotel rooms can vary, they all have pretty much the same structure. But for vacation rentals, you will never run out of new experiences on your vacations. You can stay in a sprawling beach vacation villa one time or stay in a cozy ski condo the next time. Perhaps you want to try staying in a bungalow or a houseboat or perhaps stay in a private mountain cabin. You’ll have a rich experience of different accommodations. You will never be bored!

Be safe & enjoy an exclusive area

Avoid the risk of sleeping in a camp and ensure safety during your holiday by staying in a vacation rental. Plus enjoy a private and exclusive area which you will never have if you only stay in your friend’s house.

The perfect experience is waiting for you when you rent a vacation rental property!

Great Family Reunion Vacation Homes

Great Family Reunion Vacation Homes

Renting a vacation home for a family reunion just makes sense. It is an affordable way for all family members to enjoy quality time together in a fun, new location.

On average, vacation homes offer far more space to stretch out, unwind, and enjoy! Space for everyone to relax and have a good time enjoying each others company. They usually include all the things you’d expect to find at home like full-sized appliances, dishes, books and games, and laundry facilities. These kinds of amenities can make your group stay so much more comfortable.

Most hotels just aren’t geared for families or groups of friends traveling together. Between the expense of eating out and having to book two (or more) rooms to accommodate everyone, you can blow most of your budget before you even get started.  Fortunately, it’s easy to find vacation rental homes that can satisfy the needs of just about any sized group. In addition to the essentials (plenty of beds and bathrooms), you can save a bundle by having at least some of your meals at home.

Another great benefit is that pets can be family members too. As owners set their own pet policies, there are over 4,000 pet-friendly vacation homes at OwnerDirect.com that allow dogs, cats and even other critters to stay.

Central Okanagan Wineries and Vineyards

Featured Destination: Central Okanagan

Lake Country #129267 West Kelowna #203886 Peachland #139910 Fintry #204331 Winfield #132520 Central Okanagan

Summer in the Okanagan: Sun-soaked vineyards sprawl out before your eyes, stretching down the hillsides towards Lake Okanagan. The smell of fresh fruit, award-winning wines and clear lake water awaits.

The Okanagan Valley is home to some of the most delicious wines in the world. There are over 120 Okanagan wineries and vineyards in the area, and it is British Columbia’s largest, oldest and most popular wine-producing region.

Featuring a very dry climate, the temperatures during the growing season months of July and August in the Okanagan may reach 40 °C (104 °F), often staying above 30 °C (86 °F) for several days. The region’s northerly latitude allows the vines to experience longer hours of daylight than the more southerly vineyards of California receive, with late June seeing daybreak around 5 am and sunlight still present as late as 10:30 pm. 1

Okanagan wineries range from large and luxurious facilities to small family-run vineyards. Tours can be guided or self-guided. Some offer picnic areas and others have on-site restaurants and gift shops. Consider using one of the various shuttle services so everyone in your party can enjoy a day of sampling at different locations. Another idea is to try a winery cycling tour.

Wine festivals are a great way to sample many different wines in one location. The Mile High Wine Festival at Silver Star Mountain on Aug 10, 2013 offers guests outdoor wine tastings, appetizers and live entertainment along Main Street. The Okanagan Food, Wine and Film Festival takes dinner & a movie to a new level this year on September 13-15, 2013 at the Rotary Centre for the Arts in Kelowna. Or be a Vintner for a Day on July 6, 2013 … Guests can “roll up their sleeves” or just sip some great wines and spend a day at St Hubertus & Oak Bay Estate Winery alongside vineyard managers and winemakers.

With so many options, the hardest part is deciding where to visit first!

City Shopping Getaways

City Shopping Getaways

City Shopping Getaway IdeasSpring cleaning is done … is it time now to spruce up your home with some cool new items? Or upgrade your wardrobe for the summer? A weekend getaway to “the city” for some shopping might be just what you need. And to get even more decorating ideas for your home, why not stay at a vacation home instead of a boring hotel room?

Some of the best city shopping getaways and experiences can be had at our favorite cities like:

San Diego, California – California’s second largest city, San Diego is the ideal place for a weekend shopping getaway. Enjoy the warm sunshine while you hit up the local shops at one of the many outdoor shopping centers or stay cool as you browse through exclusive stores at the mall. Downtown, wander the streets of the Gaslamp Quarter for the latest fashions in national and regional boutiques or check out the Mission Valley and Fashion Valley shopping malls for all of life’s necessities. In central San Diego, immerse yourself in the culture at the Bazaar del Mundo Shops and Old Town or check out Otay Ranch Town Center in the South.

Vancouver, BC – Enjoy a multicultural experience at the shopping malls of Vancouver. There are also excellent marketplaces and street shopping. Well-known department stores and favorite chain stores are abundant but also lots of local boutiques and great food fairs at the malls. Some of the bigger malls are Aberdeen Centre with an Asian flair; Pacific Centre downtown, Waterfront Centre Shops, and the Royal Centre Mall. West Vancouver offers the Village at Park Royal and Oakridge Centre near Queen Elizabeth Park.

Tokyo, Japan – From trendy fashion and branded goods to cutting-edge electronics, Tokyo has a shop for practically anything you could ever want. Its various sightseeing districts double as shopping districts. Many of them have their own charming character and specialties. Shinjuku is one of Toyko’s largest shopping and entrainment districts, centered around one of the busiest train stations in the world. For the center of youth fashion, check out Shibuya or Harajuku which has two parallel shopping streets: one that caters to a younger, teenage crowd and another that offers upscale boutiques, cafes and several leading designer brand shops. Odaiba is a popular shopping mall built on a man-made island.

New York City, NY – When it comes to shopping here, your choices are limitless. New York hosts some of the largest and most exclusive department stores in the world including Bloomindale’s and Macy’s NYC. At this top contender for the best city with style and sophistication, check out Madison Avenue, Fifth Avenue, Times Square, East Village and 57th Street for shops that have it all.

Houston, Texas – With 54 shopping centers, Houston is #1 on America’s 25 Best Cities for Shopping List from Forbes.  The Galleria mall is the biggest at 2.5 million square feet of retail pleasure. There are so many different types of stores, boutiques and specialty retail shops, it is fair to say that Houston is the style capital of the South. Other shopping areas to visit are Katy Mills, Willowbrook Mall in the Northwest, Market Street with open-air shopping in the Woodlands, and River Oaks Shopping Center.

Phoenix, Arizona – A surprising shopper’s paradise awaits in Phoenix and Scottsdale. From malls to boutiques, antiques to factory discount outlets, there is something for every type of shopper. Check out Biltmore Fashion Park, an open-air, lush garden of shopping experiences in the historic Biltmore District. Old Town Scottsdale offers shopping, dining, and the Scottsdale Artwalk every Thursday evening. Scottsdale Fashion Square, CityCenter of CityNorth, Borgata of Scottsdale, and Melrose on 7th are other top shopping areas to visit.

When is the Best Time to Visit Disney World Florida?

04-29-2013-blogIf you are planning on visiting Disney World, one question may be: When is the best time to go?  There are a few factors to take into account such as crowds, weather, special events and park hours.

Special Events and Park Hours

Even busy days can be rewarding, depending on when you go to the park. Daytime hours may have long lines but evenings can be wonderfully uncrowded. Parks are typically open from 9am to 11pm but it is best to check the official Disney Park Hours as they do vary for different times of the year.  Special Events take place often and can be great fun. Disney offers a complete special events calendar for the Magic Kingdom, Epcot, Hollywood Studios and Animal Kingdom parks.

Weather

During the summer months, expect plenty of heat and humidity. However, for many rides, line-ups are in the shade or in air-conditioned areas. There are other coping measures such as enjoying a wet ride or leaving the park at the heat of the day and returning in the evening.

Thunderstorms do happen often in the summertime but the rain doesn’t usually last long and it’s a chance for things to cool down. Hurricanes are rarely a problem in Orlando because it is inland.

Crowds

As Disney World is a popular place, there are definitely peak periods. We have found a couple of 2013 Disney World crowd calendars to help you find the best and worst days to go. Generally, January to early February, early May (after Spring Break and Easter), late August and the Fall months are the least crowded.

Ticket pricing may also be another factor in your trip planning. Find out how Disney World ticket prices compare  over the years.

When it comes down to it, the best time to visit Disney World Florida is when you can go. Everybody should travel to Walt Disney World and the Magic Kingdom at least once in their lives.

Have you ever been to Disney World? What time of year did you go? What was your experience?
