Sukkot Religious - Jewish - Changes Each Year |
|
Sukkot follows on the heels of the High Holidays, and represents a shift from somber reflection to joyous celebration, and from introspection to an outward display of thanks for the earth's bounty. This is thought by some to be a pre cursor to the Thanksgiving holiday celebrated in North America. Sukkot is a seasonal agricultural holiday and is one of the three pilgrimage festivals. Sukkot also refers to the "booths" that the Israelite people lived in after their pilgrimage from Egypt, according to the Torah (Lev. 23:42-43). This holiday has also become known as a time to celebrate other great events. For example, Solomon's Temple was created on Sukkot. |
