The Carcassonne airport is about a 45 minute drive/taxi from the property. Toulouse airport is 1hr 45 minutes, Perpignan airport is 1hr 10mins, Montpellier 2hrs 5 mins.
The train is about a 5 minute walk from the property. SNCF station Esperaza has several connections with Carcassonne and Quillan per day stops include Limoux and Alet les Bains.
The shops and restaurants are about a 1 minute walk from the property. There is every kind of general conveninece store within easy walking distance. Larger supermarkets, garden centres hardware stores are within a ten minute drive. On Sunday there is a large market in the town itself and many other market days in other nearby towns and villages.
Within 10 minutes walk of the cottage are pretty river and hill side walks. Traces on ancient farming and stone cestiges dot the hills. he region is well known in France for its unequalled public foot paths weaving through the country-side. The local ordinance survey map is super value for hikers. A short walk away is also the dinosaur and the hat and honey museums.
More substantial hikes include the hike up to Rennes le chateau again through beautiful country and also to the site of the actual dinosaur dig. This is situated in the hills of the nearby village of Campagne-sur-Aude.
In short driving distance are various indoor, outdoor and natural thermal water swimming pools, tree parks, horse riding, Kayaking, canyoning, quad biking and numerous markets.
In the summer there are many festivities and envents including musical and choral performances in churches, an international folklore festival, the typical local fetes held by small village communes, Harvest and artisanal fairs and of course many tours of the historic ruins, Abbeys and vineyards.
Further afield is the beach, the slopes. Visitors sometimes visit Lourdes, Barcelona and the Ariege. The historic town of sete is also a day trip away and the oyster farms and children's parks on the coast and in the mountains.
