Lunigiana is the region at the extreme north of Tuscany, situated between Liguria and Emilia Romagna along the Magra river, but its historical borders are much wider. The region of the one hundred castles, some of them still in good condition today, has always been a zone of passage. The Malaspina family tried to conquer Lunigiana, but contrasted with the Medici of Florence, Genova and Lucca. Nature is the other great resource of this region. Thermal waters, trekking paths and local folklore, traditions and gastronomy. Gastronomy is characterized with genuine tastes, flour of chestnut, mushrooms, herbs and from the breeding of rabbits and sheep.“Testaroli”,“torta d’erbi”,the “bomba di riso”,the “spalla cotta” are just a few of the specialities to taste.

This facility is 20 minutes drive from the house and has been completely refurbished during 2003. As the pool is open air it is only open during the summer months. "Ranch La Collina", is the local equestrian centre just a 15 minute drive away. There really is no better way to explore and discover this spectacular landscape than from the back of a horse. Trails take you across a variety of terrain, as the Lunigiana can be classed as one of the most untouched rural areas in the whole of Italy, with a wide choice of woodland, mountains, valleys, rivers, lakes, streams and medieval hamlets. A truly unforgettable experience! Alternatively you can hire quad bikes to explore the old tracks and trails. There is a Tennis club in Villafranca with indoor and outdoor courts. The nearest Ski resort is Zeri a 1 hour drive. Nearest Golf coarse is at Lerici, 45 minutes. Botanical gardens, 30 minutes. Mountain and forest walks right outside your door. The high meadows are abundant with flowers and heavy with their perfume. Parma is 1 hour away for the nearest Series A football team.
All of the rent is required (90 or more days in advance) to complete the booking. A refundable security/damage deposit of 150 is required. If you cancel less than 90 days prior, there is no refund.

- There is no specific quiet time policy, though guests are asked to be respectful of any neighbours.
- No Maid Service is provided during a stay.
- Housekeeping is provided prior to arrival and after departure.
