The House is set a the gateway to Connemara near the village of Cong in CO. Mayo.
It is your ideal base for trout, salmon, and pike fishing in Lough Corrib which is just 200 meters from the house. You are just 5 minute from Ashford Castle and its beautiful grounds. Here you can play golf enjoy the beautiful gardens or just relax at the waters edge, or if you are feeling more energetic you can take the ferry to the island in the middle of Lough Corrib Inchagoill and visit the old monastery where the nephew of St Patrick is burried. You are also just 25 minute from Galway city and the town of Westport and I hour from Clifden in Connemara.
Historical Cong
Cong, nestling on the shores of Lough Corrib offers a wealth of history and unspoilt natural beauty that once seen is never forgotten.
Spectacularly situated on the shores of Lough Corrib, Cong is one of the most beautiful and historic villages in Ireland. It owes its special character to its location on an island in the middle of the River Cong. It owes its name to the isthmus or 'narrows' from the Irish word cunga, which separates Lough Mask and Lough Corrib, two of the finest wild trout fisheries in Europe.
The rising of waters at Cong and the myriad of underground streams and Caverns beneath the area has captivated people for millennia. Congs strategic location has drawn hunter-gatherers, farmers, soldiers, kings, monks and adventurers for almost 7000 years.

County Mayo
County Mayo is situated in the west of Ireland in the province of Connaught and is a county with a varied landscape, scenic panoramas and natural amenities. The county stretches from Lough Corrib and the long narrow fjord of Killary Harbour in the south to the barony of Erris and Killala Bay in the north. The county is home to Ireland's highest cliffs at Croaghaun, Achill Island and is also home one of Europe's best known places of Pilgrimage, Croagh Patrick.
County Mayo has the longest coastline in Ireland and the beaches give unrivalled opportunities for peace and tranquility. In total, County Mayo has 13 Blue Flag beaches which include, Achill Island, Broadhaven Bay, Mullaghmore in the north west of the county and gems such as Old Head, Carrowmore, Carrowniskey and Mulranny to the south. Clew Bay is a famous spot which comprises of 365 islands, Clare Island being the largest.
