Alicante Airport is 90 minutes and either airport is accessed by the Toll Road which has an exit approximately 8kms away north of Oliva or you can take the exit for Absubia. Barcelona airport takes approximately 4 1/2 hours.
It is recommended that you visit Valencia by train from Gandia (40 minutes) This is stress free journey and very scenic as you pass through rice fields, vineyards and orange groves and get a real sense of the lush fertile area. There is a tourist bus in the city which you can hop on and off at strategic sights. Must sees are l'Oceanographic and l'Hemesferic, two museums recently opened, the Cathdral that holds the Holy Grail (now blessed by two Popes) the largest indoor market in Europe, beautiful archicture and a cafe culture where cafes pop up in quiet squares where you can taste tapas or you can try the local wines - Vincente Gandia where you can visit the vineyard at Utiel. It is recommended that you hire a car. Travel is not easy by bus and you will be sure to get the most from the area.
You can drive into Oliva and Gandia for shopping at many shops and supermarkets and Gandia's Carrefour hypermarket. Bar Palma just 5 minutes walk away has a small menu featuring delicious home cooked meals and a 15 minutes stroll brings you to "Aventura" where Moma has an extensive menu and tasty square pizza. In Oliva and Gandia you will be spoilt for choice. Viva Espana has a Spanish floor show at the weekends but it is advisable to book. The smaller towns have tapas bars where you can buy a Menu del dia for as little at €6. You must try Valencian paella.
Although the drive to nearest beach is only 10 minutes there are over 17 kms of Blue Flag beaches, some with beach facilities and sports and some rustic backed by sand dunes and tamarisk trees. The beaches all gently slope into the clear clean sea and the sand is of such fine quality it is exported to the Canary Islands. There is a small river (when there is water) at the end of Palma where there is fishing and sea fishing available along the coast. Steeped in history, if you tire of building sandcastles, there are plenty of castles and palaces to explore.
