Hanalei, Kauai - the Lush Side of the Garden Island; the Quaint Town of Hanalei
Stay in the quaint plantation town of Hanalei. Some say that it's like a little surfing town out of the 60's. The town itself is surrounded by tall volcanic mountains, sometimes with waterfalls on them, covered with dense greenery.
The movie Descendents (Geo. Clooney) was filmed in Hanalei so that will tell you what the scenery is like. For those of you from an earlier generation, the movie South Pacific as filmed here also. Everything is walkable from our cottage: the beach, the small business area with small shops, local restaurants, coffee shops and a market, very centrally located. On every Tuesday and Saturday there is a farmers market within a 5 minute drive from the cottage. The beach at Hanalei Bay is pristine: no vendors, no rental booths to mar the beauty. If you want to rent beach "stuff" you can walk into town.
The cottage itself is like new inside, remodeled only a short time ago. One guest described it as Pottery Barn Decor, which probably says it all. Fully equipped kitchen with granite counter tops, stainless steel pots and pans, all floors are tile, stays nice and cool. Large deck out the back of the house in full view of the Hanalei mountains. Besides the inside showers, we have two outdoor showers for use when you return from the beach, or just use any time. You can shower at night at gaze up at the stars while doing so. I'm warning you, you won't want to leave at the end of your stay !!
