Tell Family and Friends - Before you leave, let others know where you will be and when. Leave all your trip information with someone at home, including important dates, flight numbers or your planned route if going by car, addresses, and phone numbers of vacation rentals.

Lock and Secure Valuables - While away, always lock up important documents and valuables. Keep belongings in a safe or a brief case with a combination lock you can personalize. If you have a vehicle, always keep personal items out of view. Do not leave cash, travel documents or your passports in your room at any time

Don't Carry Too Much Cash - Limit the amount of cash you carry and use alternatives such as traveler’s checks, credit cards, or bank cards when possible. Carry enough money for day-to-day essentials and use alternative methods as your main source of funds. If you do have to carry cash, use a special traveler's wallet that can hangs as a necklace or money belt under your clothes so that the wallet is more secured than just in your pocket.

Carry a Cell Phone - Although roaming charges can be quite high when you are in other areas, having a cell phone for an unexpected emergency or to communicate with another member of your group can be your lifeline.

Medications/Prescriptions - Should you be on regular medications or have to protect yourself from adverse reactions, ensure you bring enough of a supply to last you your entire trip. Getting local prescriptions may prove difficult. Ensure that you have original containers for all medications when going through security.

Travel In Groups - There are strengths in numbers! Avoid traveling alone especially to more exotic destinations. Take a friend or family member for greater peace of mind and security.
