DAY TRIPS from your accommodation: Just a few suggestions - *Limerick City - only 45miles/72kms from here "Glenstal Abbey just 15 minutes from Limerick is a place where the monks recite their prayers and Mass with chant. *Adare Village with it's quaint thatched houses. *Bunratty Castle - outside Limerick - perhaps take in a Medieval Banquet show. *Kiss the Blarney Stone" at Blarney Castle and visit nearby Cork City (about a 2 hour drive). *Titanic Experience" - Cobh (Cove) near Cork City, and formerly called Queenstown, was the pick-up point for 123 passengers before the ship embarked on that fateful voyage to America. *Tralee Town" and it's Geraldine Museum and much more. *Killarney Town" - Muckross House, Killarney's Lakes and the surrounding area - Take a trip with a jarvey in a jaunting car. *Dingle Town" - take a boat trip on the bay and meet Fungie the Dolphin or travel on around scenic Slea head. *Castlemaine is a town you may pass through - this was the birthplace of "The Wild Colonial Boy". *The Ring of Kerry Drive - absolutely fabulous. *Cross over the Shannon River into County Clare to visit the Cliffs of Moher and The Burren. The ferry is only 15 minutes from here. Listowel is a famous literary town and frequently called The Literary Capital of Ireland. Annually, in May/June it hosts Writers’ Week, a literary festival overflowing with art, drama, poetry, film, music and story telling. A few miles from the town, a local man, Maurice Walsh, penned a book with a well known title - "The Quiet Man", which was adapted and turned into a Hollywood film starring John Wayne and Maureen O'Hara. A few miles up the road is the town of Foynes. The actress, Maureen O'Hara, was a patron of the Foynes Flying Boat Museum It was also here that our world famous Irish Coffee was invented! *Irish Coffee Making Championships" - this is held annually in Foynes, around June. The Listowel Racecourse hosts two horse-racing events each year and the race course is only a 3 minute drive from here. One of Listowel’s treasures is The Garden of Europe, located in the Town Park. It contains over 2,500 trees and shrubs from all over Europe. It is only a short distance from us - right beside the golf course, down by the riverside.     Marian and John invite you to rent this 300-year-old farm homestead, located near the River Shannon in Ireland in the centre of Ireland, only 1 Km from the River Shannon. The cottage is well placed for touring Ireland. This cottage is Irish Tourist Board approved and has been lovingly restored, keeping as much as possible of the 'Old World' character of the cottage while adding all the modern comforts. The wide bridge which crosses the River Shannon to County Galway opens the way to tour the west of Ireland. Banagher is famous for its Irish music pubs, river cruises, golf courses, Bog walks and rail tours, great Fishing, Excellent super markets and shops, Restaurants, and Hotels. This is the only rental property on the farm and it has been the McDonald family home for generations. It is located close to the main farmhouse, in a nice farm garden with an orchard. Our local town Banagher welcomes visitors. There is a variety of pubs so you can enjoy a quiet drink or follow the sound of singing and traditional music which can be heard on the street to a lively pub session. On a warm night listen to the distinctive sound of the corncrake on the bridge or go on a Corncrake Evening organized by Bird watch Ireland during the summer. Heating - There is oil-fired central heating. The living room has an Aga type solid fuel range (peat turf is supplied free). Electricity is included in the price. All bed linen and towels are provided and are included in the rental price. There is a wired internet connection in the cottage and Wi-Fi can be accessed outside the cottage. There is a colour TV and dining and sitting area. Other facilities: For children the cottage contains a cot and high chair and there is a swing on the chestnut tree for the children. There is a patio and barbeque area at the rear of the cottage in the orchard. For the fisherman there is a lock up tackle shed with fridge-freezer for bait and equipment storage. The rail over the solid fuel cooker is ideal for drying wet fishing gear also there is some drying facilities in the tackle shed. Boat hire locally also bait and tackle. You can have your fire lighted before you return from your days outing on request. A kennel is provided for pets.
