A scattered hotel, is a simple, non-invasive and sustainable new concept in tourism where rooms are scattered in different buildings within the town, but run by a manager working out of a central reception area, who is on hand to answer questions, make recommendations and arrange bookings. The guestrooms are all within walking distance of the concierge and common areas.
A scattered hotel is born out of existing houses, apartments or even stables, which are renovated or converted to serve their new function. The philosophy behind the scattered hotel is that it should merge seamlessly into, not only the existing architecture, but also the local culture and customs.
A scattered hotel offers all the services of a traditional hotel, but there is no standardization of facilities. It is organised around a main building which might incorporate a reception, restaurant and some guest rooms, with the other rooms, literally, scattered around the town centre. Scattered hotels don’t call for new construction, but rather, for the restoration and preservation of centuries-old architecture, reconverting an existing room into a hotel room is far more sustainable than building a new hotel. Of course all renovations try to be sustainable, and to preserve the original materials as far as possible. These are places for the curious tourist, for those who want more than just a cursory feel of the local cultural flavour. The scattered hotel offers the possibility of a full immersion into life in Italy's historical centres without giving up all the amenities (reception, breakfast, cleaning, care ...) typical of a hotel policy.
Scattered hotels represent a real style to stay and also power the local economy because everything is sourced on site, involving the residents and local producers, and preventing depopulation.
