The Adirondacks is the largest publicly protected area in the United States and encompasses an area larger than Yellowstone, Yosemite, Glacier and Grand Canyon National Parks combined. There are over 6 million acres of wilderness with 3,000 lakes, 30,000 miles of rivers and streams and over 2,000 miles of hiking trails. A variety of outdoor adventure is waiting for you even at the doorstep of your private cabin rental or lake-front house rental. During the warmer months enjoy a variety of water activities from fishing, boating and kayaking as well as hiking, birding and cycling. Enjoy an autumn drive through beautiful fall foliage. And in the winter visit one of the many ski areas and enjoy the great outdoors. The region borders New Hampshire and Canada. Lake Placid, host of the 1980 Winter Olympics, is conveniently located within 2 hours from 3 airports in Albany, NY, Burlington, VT and Montreal, QC. The region is also serviced by Interstate 87 (the Adirondack Northway) as well as the Adirondack Regional Airport and Amtrak.
