Located in Western Europe, France is considered one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, entertaining about 83 million guests in 2012 alone. Renowned worldwide for its very rich and diverse culture, France is also well loved all over the world for many of its outstanding and world famous landmarks. Frances varied yet temperate climate, coupled with top notch sights and life-enriching gastronomical, cultural and historical travel adventures, made this beautiful European country a top choice for travelers. Bordered by equally beautiful countries and destinations, such as Switzerland to the east, the Mediterranean Sea to the south, the idyllic Atlantic Ocean coastline to the west and the English Channel to the north (where you can take a train to England), it is no wonder people keep coming back to this country for their vacations.

While France is accessible to the rest of the world through its main international airport, Roissy Charles de Gaulle, or what is more popularly known locally as CDG, those coming from domestic destinations can opt to fly in through Paris second airport, Orly. Travellers from the UK can choose flight services offered by numerous local airlines, including those provided by British Airways, Jet2, CityJet and RyanAir. Of course, France is also accessible through ferries, trains, bus or car.

Any tour in France ought to start with some of its most celebrated landmarks, and there is no better place to start than with its capital city, Paris. Most prominent for its nickname, the City of Lights, Paris is home to a number of distinguished French tourist spots, starting with the iconic Eiffel Tower. Another famous tourist attraction in this distinguished city of France is the Louvre Museum, which is not just one of the most famous French attractions, but also considered one of the worlds largest museum. The Louvre, which opened in August of 1973, is home to some of the most famous art works in the world, including the Mona Lisa by Leonardo da Vinci. While in Paris, you might as well check out other celebrated landmarks, starting with Notre Dame , Arc de Triomphe de l'toile, and Sacre Coeur. And while you are there, do not forget to visit the Luxembourg Gardens, deemed the second largest park in Paris and the garden of the French Senate, as well as other of its more than 3000 national monuments.

The French Riviera is a perfect destination in France, especially when you decide to visit during summertime. Although it can get chaotic with many tourists trying to get tan under the French sun, the trip to one of its many scenic beaches, especially those in St. Tropez and Cannes, will be worth the trouble. Although the Riviera can get very crowded during peak season, you can always choose to stay at the less popular yet equally beautiful part of it, like the villages of Gourdon and Eze. Another perfect travel destination during the summer season is the 1,000 km of coastline of Corsica and its more than 200 beautiful beaches.

Those looking for thrilling and exhilarating outdoor adventures can go hiking or try the many wonderful activities that many parts of France offer. Start your day by exploring the majestic river canyon of Verdon Gorge in the south-east of France. Most famous, probably because of its proximity to French Riviera, people can either go rock climbing, or rent kayaks to explore the turquoise river, or drive around its rim. While those who simply love to explore outdoors and bask in the warm French sun can always go for a stroll in the south-west city of Carcassonne and marvel at its centuries-old medieval fortress and castle, which is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site list. Visitors looking for extreme sports can book a room for a night or two at Chamonix and experience what this French ski resort has to offer. Situated in the French Alps at the bottom of Mont Blanc, Chamonix became a household name when it became host to the first ever Winter Olympics in 1924 and is currently known for its world-class skiing facilities.

A visit to France will never be complete without having one gastronomic adventure. Start with some of its 400 cheese varieties and pair these with a glass of world-renowned Bordeaux wine. You will also find it most exciting to the palate to sample a number of well loved French dishes, starting with the famous baguette bread, Gratin dauphinois, Bouillabaisse, and the expensive yet must-try Foie Gras. While you are in France, make time to experience many of its colorful and festive celebrations, starting with Bastille Day celebrated every 14th of July to commemorate the start of the French Revolution.
