Kimberley Rental Guide

Kimberley Alpine Resort is only 2.5 km from the City of Kimberley, the second highest city in Canada (elevation of 4,039'/1,231m).

Kimberley became the Bavarian City of the Rockies in the early 1970's, adopting a theme that related to the town being nestled beneath North Star Mountain (Kimberley Alpine Resort) ...with great downhill and cross-country skiing.

The City of Kimberley is located 20 minutes from the Cranbrook Airport.

The Resort base, in the Polaris Lodge, is adjacent to the Lodge at Trickle Creek. There are a total of 68 runs plus 12 in the glades with 1,800 acres of terrain. Kimberley also has a half pipe and terrain park for boarders.

The skiing terrain is 20% beginners, 42% intermediate, and 38% advanced.There is night skiing available on the North Star Express High Speed Quad, and the handle tow.

On mountain snowmobiling, ice skating/hockey rink, tubing/tobogganing area, and weekly bonfires are some of the many activities to try out.

The Kimberley Nordic Club trail network consists of a variety of double track set trails with centre skating lanes. The entrance to the trails is near the Kirkwood Inn.

There are 25 km of groomed cross country trails. There is a 3.3 km loop which is lit for nordic night-skiing.

In the summer season, Kimberley offers excellent golfing, at the Kimberley Golf Club and the Trickle Creek Golf Resort.

Summer in Kimberley is as exciting as winter with a multitude of activities available.

Kimberley makes a great base for exploring the surrounding area which offers a variety of natural and historical attractions such as the Mining Railway; the Cranbrook Museum of Rail Travel; the natural bird and wildlife sanctuary at Elizabeth Lake; Fort Steele Heritage Town and Fairmont Hot Springs Resort with its helicopter sightseeing, and horseback riding.

Professional guides are available for both river rafting trips and fishing trips. Rainbow, cutthroat and bull trout are plentiful in the area's streams, river and lakes.

The area offers canoeing, back country horseback trips, and scenic flight tours.

Rent one of Kimberley Alpine Resort's mountain bikes for the day and explore the Kimberley Nature Park trail system and/or take the Buckhorn Chair up the mountain to experience even more adventurous terrain.

Kimberley is a great location for hikers of all skill levels. You can take a casual hike through Kimberley's Nature Park or take the Buckhorn Chairlift up the mountain to access trails on the front and back side of Kimberley Alpine Resort. More strenuous hikes can be had in the nearby Purcell Wilderness Conservancy containing high mountains, alpine lakes and grasslands.

The City of Kimberley is known as the "Bavarian City of the Rockies" and combines old European flair with outstanding hospitality. It is home to many extremely unique restaurants, and even has a Wandering Minstrel in the summertime!

The downtown area is called the Platzl and looks like a small alpine village; it is an outdoor pedestrian mall. It has Canada's largest Cuckoo Clock, and a variety of stores for clothing, souvenirs, groceries and sporting goods, and a Swiss Bakery with outstanding delectable treats.
