ZihuaRob's Zihuatanejo Ixtapa Mexico Guide and Directory: Troncones, La Barra de Potosí, Ixtapa & Zihuatanejo, Mexico are located on La Costa Grande of the state of Guerrero fronting the Pacific Ocean about 240 kilometers (144 miles) northwest of Acapulco. Both Acapulco and Morelia are about 4 hours driving time from Zihuatanejo.

Zihuatanejo is the actual town with family-run guest inns, luxury boutique hotels, condominiums, and vacation lodgings that overlook the bay and beaches as well as the homes, apartments, stores, shops, and businesses that make up its thriving community.

Barra de Potosí, Playa Larga and Playa Blanca form a 15-kilometer stretch of beach to the south of Zihuatanejo, Mexico near the Aeropuerto Internacional de Zihuatanejo-Ixtapa. The entire region makes up one of the most beautiful beach resort areas in the world. Diverse, peaceful and secluded. Enjoy the warmth of Mexico's culture and her people. Bask in the sunshine on our diverse and tranquil beaches.

Zihuatanejo has the old-fashioned charm of traditional Mexican culture. It is a town that sprang up from a handful of families who were mostly fishermen. Fishing continues to be a way of life for a large number of families, and the increasing popularity of the area as a sportfishing destination has given new impetus to their livelihood.

Ixtapa-Zihuatanejo: General Information: Our beautiful tourist destination is part of the well known Guerrero's Sun Triangle, together with Acapulco and Taxco (a colonial destination within our state). Zihuatanejo is pronounced "zee-watt-a-NEH-ho" which means "place of woman" in the nahuatl tongue. Ixtapa is pronounce it as "eeks-TAH-pa", which means "the white place" in the same tongue. They are hard to pronounce for sure, but they are beautiful to discover and enjoy.
Zihuatanejo is a small town, which nowadays still conserves the typical physiognomy and the friendly atmosphere of the old fishing village with that True Mexican Flavor. Many of the downtown streets are still cobblestones paved and the remodeled ones, with an imitation of these stones. Most of the constructions have that tropical-coastal look (even some of the new ones to help preserve the old town appearance). There are many cozy restaurants, boutiques, jewelry stores, bars, hotels (from one to five stars), tourist markets, and much more. You won't see any tall buildings (four stories maximum) because they are not permitted by a City Law (the purpose is to conserve the village look). The downtown area, known as El Centro is great for walking and browsing, as it is the Paseo del Pescador a brick-paved beachfront promenade along Playa La Madera and Playa Principal beaches up to the Pier. Zihuatanejo is also famous for its great fishing, diving and snorkeling, and its is a place where you can practice most water sports.
