Stintino was founded in 1885 by the 45 families of fishermen who had been sent away from the island of the Asinara which had been chosen to become a penal colony and a sanitary quarantine station. The place is renowned for the very white sand and the exceptional colour of the sea, the beaches are called ‘La Pelosa and le Saline.
