San Diego Latino Film Festival (March): Established in 1993 as a student film festival, the San Diego Latino Film Festival has become one of the larger and well-respected Latino film festivals in the country. Over 160 films and videos from across Latin America and the United States will be screened at theaters throughout the county. Directors, actors, and audience members from around the globe will descend on San Diego for the festival.

San Diego Festival of Beer (September): Over sixty local brewers will be in attendance, providing samples and tastings of their signature and award-winning beers. The event will also feature live music, vendors, food booths and more.

San Diego Restaurant Week (September): San Diego's culinary community joins forces. More than 180 of the region's top restaurants offer prix-fixe, three-course dinner menus at just $20, $30 or $40 per person (two-course lunch menus are $10, $15 or $20 per person). Visitors can sample the signature cuisine and sophisticated style that makes San Diego's dining scene one of the region's top attractions.

Oceanside Harbor Days (September): Two event filled days of sun, sand, and surf with fun activities including a sandcastle competition, Entertainment Stage, Arts, Crafts and Food booth areas, Nail 'n' Sail Competition, Military, Public Safety displays, and more.

Gaslamp Quarter Fall Back Festival (November): It brings alive the history and culture of downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter in the 1880s. Three blocks are transformed into a western town of yesteryear, complete with Wyatt Earp, blacksmith demonstrations and panning for gold. It also features food, live music, children's arts and crafts, and spaghetti-, pie- and ice cream-eating contests.

San Diego Bay Wine & Food Festival (November): The region's largest wine and culinary event, takes place at venues throughout San Diego. The festival includes gourmet food, celebrity chefs, wine tastings, cooking demonstrations and more.

Mission Bay Christmas Boat Parade of Lights (December): Event includes over 100 brightly illuminated powerboats and sailboats. The parade ends with a fantastic firework show over the water.

  5. Fly a kite along the grassy field in the Tecolote Shores of Mission Bay Park, a 4,600-acre aquatic park. Here, away from trees and overhead wires, friends and family gather to launch colorful kites into the bay breezes.
  6. Enjoy free organ concerts at 2:00 pm on Sundays at the Spreckels Organ Pavillion in Balboa Park.   9. Visit the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Chula Vista for a free tour of the 150-acre facility, including training fields and tracks, athlete dorms and the Otay Lake Reservoir. Tours are offered from the Copley Visitor Center at 11:00 am on Saturday. Self-guided tours are available daily between 9:00 am - 4:00 pm.
  10. Stargaze outside the Reuben H. Fleet Science Center in Balboa Park on the first Wednesday of every month. The San Diego Astronomy Association sets up huge telescopes to offer guests a great view of all the stars in the night sky.
  11. Take a scenic, one-hour drive to Mt. Laguna. Once there, hop out for an invigorating hike and enjoy the fresh mountain air whispering through the pines.
