Alert Bay: Lodge
- 4 BDR
- 4 BA
- Sleeps 12
Cradled on a peninsula overlooking Johnstone Strait on an acre of lush land, the lodge lies on the south shore of Cormorant Island, in a glacier-carved waterway with Vancouver Island to the south and the rugged mainland coast to the north. Accessible only by boat or ferry, Alert Bay (pop. 1400) is the oldest community on north Vancouver Island, and Johnstone Strait is home to the largest population of orca whales in Western North America. Eagles nest in our backyard. Activities include fishing, kayaking, whale and grizzly bear watching, the Big Tree Trail and First Nations culture.
The lodge has been recently renovated and has an expansive common room with 14' arched cedar beams, a wood stove, library, bathrooms with heated floors and dining room. A children's playground is located on the east side of the Lodge. Two bicycles are available to explore the Island. Transportation to the lodge by 15 passenger van is available from Vancouver or Victoria.
