Recently constructed in a style typical from this area, with underfloor heating, 15 m² terrace and a big living room kitchen area perfect for groups of 6 to 12 persons. The chalet consists of 5 bedrooms, 2 rooms with double beds and shower and a shared toilet in the hallway, one twin room with shower and toilet, one room with 3 single beds, shower and toilet and one room with 3 single beds, bath and toilet.     Tucked between the Dordogne River and steep, dramatic stone cliffs, the village of La Roque Gageac is the picturesque location for this completely renovated three thousand square foot stone house. Dating from the Middle Ages, the Dordogne Village-House is reportedly the oldest in the village. There are ancient stone steps gently ascending the hill, leading directly to the house. It offers an excellent opportunity to savor the natural beauty of this distinct area of France, as well as a truly authentic medieval village. This idyllic setting is convenient with wonderful restaurants, casual dining and wine cellar within steps of the house. On the mid-level of this three-story house, one enters through a rustic wooden door set into the thick, ochre-colored stonewalls onto a private courtyard. This leads to the entrance of the the home through your completely remodeled kitchen with massive stone fireplace ("cantou") that now houses a wood stove, a long dining table, a new cooking range, and an American style refrigerator. The kitchen is completely equipped for convenient meal preparation. The attractive lounge has oak beams and the original large traditional fireplace (in addition there is electric heating for winter use). The house was beautifully appointed with great amenities and plenty of space. The house is well equipped and beautifully appointed. It has all the charm of a bygone era with all the modern touches. La Roque is a picture perfect town and the shops and restaurants provided everything we needed. Helene, on the next level up from the house supplied us with wine and gourmet treats and Chef Dimitri came and prepared 2 exceptional meals for us. We had a wonderful time exploring castles, caves, spent a day in Bordeaux and drove through the gorgeous country visiting towns and villages. I can't wait for my next visit!

    'We had a brilliant time!' Our beaming visitors say Béral is the perfect getaway for adults and for kids. The traditional 18th-century farmhouse in white Quercy stone is matched by the splendour of its private pool, large terrace with ping-pong & barbeque, orchard and exquisite setting. All has been sensitively restored to be characterful but with modern conveniences. The property is set into the side of a hill, with everything facing south; the terrace, pool and gardens are spread out to give wonderful views over the fields of sunflowers. Inside, the farmhouse has a large main living room, with stone and whitewashed walls, a traditional corner kitchen and a beamed open fireplace. To either side are delightful bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with a king and a cot if needed. All the rooms have views over the valley. The upstairs bathroom has a hipbath with a shower, and a toilet. Downstairs are two more bedrooms - both with antique floor tiles and two single beds - and a second bathroom. The house has been tastefully restored to retain all its ancient character, but with modern facilities throughout. The house is particularly well laid out for a single family or two families together. But the upper floor is also fantastic for a couple traveling alone. There are too many attractions in the area to suggest more than a few. Among the distinctive villages, Lascabanes has beautiful flowers and a lovely church; Lauzerte, high on a hill, a carefully restored bastide with a remarkable town square and good festivals; Saint-Cirq Lapopie, a 45-minute drive up the Lot, is the most famous village of the area, a medieval town in a spectacular cliffside setting hanging over the river - good restaurants too; Montpezat-de-Quercy has a beautiful arcaded square, and half-timbered houses. Rocamadour is not far away. Figeac is well worth a visit, with its museum to Champollion, who cracked the code of the Rosetta Stone. With the porous limestone prevalent on the causse, there are important caves in the area. The most famous is the huge underground village of Peche Merle, with its prehistoric paintings and traces of early man (up the Célé river from Cahors). The most well-known museums in the area include the Toulouse Lautrec museum in Albi (which also has a wonderful red-brick cathedral), the Musée des Beaux Arts in Agen, and the Musée d'Ingres in Montaubon. There are many other types of museum covering every aspect of Quercy life. Among the cathedrals and abbeys, apart from Albi, you might consider driving to the wonderful abbey at Moissac, which also has a stunning set of well-preserved cloisters. 'I thought I would drop you a line to let you know what a wonderful time my family and I had at Béral. You are truly lucky to own such a beautiful house set in picturesque countryside. We all felt that the improvements you had made complimented the house and were in keeping with its origins.     This is a charming 15th Century stone house located in the heart of the village of Beynac, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The chateau at Beynac is on the top of a 500 foot cliff and the village houses are positioned below - providing privacy and spectacular views from one side of the house, and village life on the other. Extraordinary views of the magnificent Dordogne river and the Valley of the Five Chateaux present themselves from each of the four floors. The front door opens directly from the cobblestone streets - just steps from our private and unique parking grotte - into the main room of approximately 60 sq. Meters. Honey colored stone walls, stone tile floor, ancient wooden beams and a huge medieval fireplace set the tone for this main floor. A fully applianced kitchen with a granite countered cooking area is built into one of the old fireplaces. Antique carpets and leather seating offers a comfortable area to relax, listen to the stereo or view English satellite television on the 30' flat panel television. The large dining table suitable for seating up to 6 diners is next to the window offering spectacular views of the river, the sunset and the colorful montgolfiers (hot air balloons) drifting by at dawn and sunset most days in season. Down the stone staircase is the Master Bedroom with an ensuite bathroom combining modern fixtures with stone walls. A King-size bed with temperpedic mattress, reading lamps, desk and a large private full width balcony with loungers, barbeque and dining table for two make this room the ideal spot to relax with the a glass of wine to admire the view. On this same level there is a very small bedroom with bunk beds for children, which is especially convenient for parents who want their young children to sleep nearby but in a separate space from the master bedroom. One floor down, the old merchants store room now is the second large bedroom, again with stone walls, ancient beamed ceiling and a river view. This room also has a king size bed. An ensuite bathroom, and a full laundry room with washer and dryer complete this floor. Because neither bedrooms are in the attic, and the thick stone walls offer a cooling insulator against the hot Dordogne summers, we sleep comfortably cool all summer long, many times with a duvet cover. Another floor down brings you to two flagstoned terraces, one with a grape and wisteria arbor for a shaded sitting area and a few steps down, the lower terrace - with full access to the sun. Wonderful views of the river from both terraces and views of the Chateaux of Fayrac, Castelnaud, Lacosse and Marqueyssac.

    Why “l’Hirondelle” – because each year in the summer swallows visit Capestang and is area and can be seen performing their aerobatics against the back drop of an Azure sky. We started off with a stone built house just over 100 years old and over a period of 4 years we have lovingly restored it into luxurious maison de village in southern France, which sleeps 6, comprising of three double bedrooms, fully fitted kitchen, spacious open plan lounge/diner, two bathrooms and a ground floor toilet, terrace, garden, BBQ, spa pool, garage and is situated in a calm area of the village. It is in an ideal spot to wind down after the hustle bustle of everyday life, yet with plenty of attractions in the area you can do as much or as little as you wish. THE REGION: It is in a village called CAPESTANG (population approx 3,500), which is close to the PYRENEES, the MASSIF CENTRAL and just 25 minutes from the MEDITERRANEAN SEA. Why is it called Capestang? Prior to the Middle Ages the village was on land jutting into a lake or etang, so became known as Cap d’Etang. The lake was drained but remnants of it can still be seen from the top of the nearby L’Oppidom d’Enserune, which was a Roman settlement where many artefacts still exist, showing a dartboard appearance from the shape of the fields below. It is a village which is popular with tourists but is not spoiled by them. The essential character of a southern French village still being retained. It is an area is full of antiquity and items of historical interest dating back to 3,000 BC. This village has been in existence for at least 1,000 years and parts of the old village wall and other buildings still exist. It is a centre of the Languedoc viticulture region where the local wines have become exceptionally good over the last few years. There facilities for walking, lazing on the beach (some of which are family orientated, such as Valras Plage, where there is a kiddies playground and sheltered areas to make safe areas for the children and it is patrolled by lifeguards). There is swimming in the sea, lakes and nearby swimming pools with other water sports. You can hire a boat for a leisurely ride along the canal, or hire cycles for a ride. It is a very good area for cycling and walking. For the motorcyclists, there are some excellent roads for riding hereabouts but beware of the speed traps. There are even areas where you can do some light aircraft flying. Wine tasting, eating out and exploring old relics are also good options. In fact with such a good choice of restaurants which can be reached on foot the car can rest in the garage at night. The locals are so very cheerful, friendly and helpful and overall it has a calm and peaceful atmosphere and is an ideal place to wind down. It is also makes an excellent base for touring the region. Our house is situated within 300 metres of the village centre where there are a number of shops, cafe's, restaurants, a very striking church and other amenities. At the eastern end of the village, there is an InterMarché Supermarket with a Lidl supermarket at the western end. This area is blessed with a Mediterranean climate meaning that it is hot and dry in the summer and the winters are relatively mild, with lovely comfortable spring and autumns in between. LE CANAL DU MIDI crosses the northern part of the village and is about 500 metres from the house. ABOUT OUR HOUSE: Our house is mostly stone built and terraced. Having good modern insulation it is comparatively cool in the summer and warm in the winter. This is augmented by a “green” system which provides heating and cooling to the main living area and the three bedrooms. A wood burning stove gives added heat and comfort in the coldest months. It is built on two floors with the ground floor and is mainly open plan, consisting of a front porch, then a spacious lounge/diner extending into the kitchen giving a spacious living area. In here there is an HD multi channel flat screen satellite and local TV, an audio centre, a comfortable 3 piece suit and book shelves with a selection of books covering all interests. In the dining area there is a dining table with 6 chairs and also a dresser. There is an integral garage, large enough to accommodate most makes of car. At the rear of the garage there is the laundry area with a washing machine. There is a downstairs toilet with a wash basin with a rear porch area. The kitchen is fully equipped and includes an electric cooker, dish washer, fridge freezer, micro wave oven and a granite surface work top. To the rear of our house there is an outdoor terraced area with a barbeque and garden furniture to allow for outdoor eating and beyond this a garden in which there is a spa pool. After mounting the stairs to the second floor there is firstly a double bedroom furnished with a pair of single beds, built in wardrobes with ample hanging and storage space. From here the next room is the main bathroom which is quite large and has a tub, shower, wash basin and a W/C. The next bedroom is also fitted with built in ample sized wardrobes. It has twin beds and an en suite shower room with a shower, wash basin and W/C. The final bedroom is furnished with a double bed and again ample sized built in wardrobes and drawer space. The beams have been left exposed throughout the second floor and in the single storey kitchen giving high ceilings and a pleasing ambience. In the roof there are two Veluxe skylights allowing addition daylight to the stairs and upstairs landing, giving a light and airy feeling. In the bathroom there is a heated towel rail which can also be used to provide heat. The domestic hot water system is heated via solar panels on the roof feeding a 300 litre tank. We also have a telephone and inter-net access. GETTING THERE: Capestang is about 15 minutes from the Beziers West exit of the N9 Autoroute. It is about one hour from Montpelier, Perpignan and Carcassonne Airports, two hours from Toulouse and three hours from Barcelona Airports. Alternatively, if you prefer about 12 hours driving time from the channel ports. It is also an easy day’s drive from Bilbao in Spain. There is also a Motor-Rail terminus at nearby Narbonne and the journey by EuroStar, TGV and SNCF should take about II hours to Beziers from St Pancras, London. RyanAir fly from Stansted to Carcassonne and Perpignan, to Beziers, Nimes & Gerona from Luton Airport - EasyJet Gatwick to Toulouse & Barcelona– Babybmi East Midlands to Toulouse.

    Our 2-bedroom house is in a charming village which sits on the River Yonne and Canal du Nivernais in rural Burgundy. Or catch a train to Clamecy (17km). The village has a railway station (Corbigny line) which is 1km (0.62 miles) from the house - a 10-12 minute walk. We recommend drives in the country; walks or bike rides along the canal tow paths; fishing in the river and canal; visiting vineyards; chateaux and abbeys, sampling the delicious local cuisine and wines, and browsing in antique stores. Buy fresh bread, croissants and delicacies every day from the bakery, and on Wednesday (when it's closed), have a croque monsieur and a coffee at the cafe/bar in the main square while watching the world go by. Vezelay is a UNESCO heritage-listed village just 15km (9 miles) away, and the Caves of Arcy-sur-Cure are just 18km (11 miles) away. The wine growing area of Chablis is about 40km away - the whites are superb.
