The medieval village of Olargues, only a few kilometres away, is officially listed as one of the most beautiful in France. Nestled in the hillside, the house and garden are completely private, and the result is a quiet and secluded natural setting.     This is a charming 15th Century stone house located in the heart of the village of Beynac, listed as one of the most beautiful villages in France. The chateau at Beynac is on the top of a 500 foot cliff and the village houses are positioned below - providing privacy and spectacular views from one side of the house, and village life on the other. Extraordinary views of the magnificent Dordogne river and the Valley of the Five Chateaux present themselves from each of the four floors. The front door opens directly from the cobblestone streets - just steps from our private and unique parking grotte - into the main room of approximately 60 sq. Meters. Honey colored stone walls, stone tile floor, ancient wooden beams and a huge medieval fireplace set the tone for this main floor. A fully applianced kitchen with a granite countered cooking area is built into one of the old fireplaces. Antique carpets and leather seating offers a comfortable area to relax, listen to the stereo or view English satellite television on the 30' flat panel television. The large dining table suitable for seating up to 6 diners is next to the window offering spectacular views of the river, the sunset and the colorful montgolfiers (hot air balloons) drifting by at dawn and sunset most days in season. Down the stone staircase is the Master Bedroom with an ensuite bathroom combining modern fixtures with stone walls. A King-size bed with temperpedic mattress, reading lamps, desk and a large private full width balcony with loungers, barbeque and dining table for two make this room the ideal spot to relax with the a glass of wine to admire the view. On this same level there is a very small bedroom with bunk beds for children, which is especially convenient for parents who want their young children to sleep nearby but in a separate space from the master bedroom. One floor down, the old merchants store room now is the second large bedroom, again with stone walls, ancient beamed ceiling and a river view. This room also has a king size bed. An ensuite bathroom, and a full laundry room with washer and dryer complete this floor. Because neither bedrooms are in the attic, and the thick stone walls offer a cooling insulator against the hot Dordogne summers, we sleep comfortably cool all summer long, many times with a duvet cover. Another floor down brings you to a flagstoned terrace with a grape and wisteria arbor for a shaded sitting area and a few steps down, the stunning swimming pool area - with panoramic views and full access to the sun. Wonderful views of the river from both terraces and views of the Chateaux of Fayrac, Castelnaud, Lacosse and Marqueyssac. Eat, drink and be merry. Mont Joie is truly a destination in itself.     'We had a brilliant time!' Our beaming visitors say Béral is the perfect getaway for adults and for kids. The traditional 18th-century farmhouse in white Quercy stone is matched by the splendour of its private pool, large terrace with ping-pong & barbeque, orchard and exquisite setting. All has been sensitively restored to be characterful but with modern conveniences. The property is set into the side of a hill, with everything facing south; the terrace, pool and gardens are spread out to give wonderful views over the fields of sunflowers. Inside, the farmhouse has a large main living room, with stone and whitewashed walls, a traditional corner kitchen and a beamed open fireplace. To either side are delightful bedrooms, one with a double bed, the other with a king and a cot if needed. All the rooms have views over the valley. The upstairs bathroom has a hipbath with a shower, and a toilet. Downstairs are two more bedrooms - both with antique floor tiles and two single beds - and a second bathroom. The house has been tastefully restored to retain all its ancient character, but with modern facilities throughout. The house is particularly well laid out for a single family or two families together. But the upper floor is also fantastic for a couple traveling alone. There are too many attractions in the area to suggest more than a few. Among the distinctive villages, Lascabanes has beautiful flowers and a lovely church; Lauzerte, high on a hill, a carefully restored bastide with a remarkable town square and good festivals; Saint-Cirq Lapopie, a 45-minute drive up the Lot, is the most famous village of the area, a medieval town in a spectacular cliffside setting hanging over the river - good restaurants too; Montpezat-de-Quercy has a beautiful arcaded square, and half-timbered houses. Rocamadour is not far away. Figeac is well worth a visit, with its museum to Champollion, who cracked the code of the Rosetta Stone. With the porous limestone prevalent on the causse, there are important caves in the area. The most famous is the huge underground village of Peche Merle, with its prehistoric paintings and traces of early man (up the Célé river from Cahors). The most well-known museums in the area include the Toulouse Lautrec museum in Albi (which also has a wonderful red-brick cathedral), the Musée des Beaux Arts in Agen, and the Musée d'Ingres in Montaubon. There are many other types of museum covering every aspect of Quercy life. Among the cathedrals and abbeys, apart from Albi, you might consider driving to the wonderful abbey at Moissac, which also has a stunning set of well-preserved cloisters. 'I thought I would drop you a line to let you know what a wonderful time my family and I had at Béral. You are truly lucky to own such a beautiful house set in picturesque countryside. We all felt that the improvements you had made complimented the house and were in keeping with its origins.     Our gite at La Buissonniere in beautiful Normandy, is all on the ground floor and sleeps 4 in double and twin bedrooms. It’s spacious and homely beamed lounge has a large feature fireplace and electric heating and adjoins a well equipped open plan kitchen diner that will seat 4 comfortably. There is a combined shower room and WC. To the rear of the property there is a private garden for your sole use, with sunloungers, table, chairs and a barbecue for alfresco eating. To the front there is a large grassed garden for boules, football, badminton, cricket, swingball and frisbee, all of which are provided. We have sheep in the paddock, free ranging chicken and 2 friendly black cats La Buissonniere is located midway between three main towns: historic Mortain (10mins) which was pivotal in turning the tide of the Battle for Normandy in World War 2 (the site of the heroic resistance of the 30th Infantry Division - Old Hickory - at La Petite Chappelle can just be seen from our fields); the beautiful medieval town of Domfront (15mins) standing high on a hill overlooking the Orne countryside; and the market town of St. Hilaire du Harcouet (20mins). Although secluded, La Buissonniere is not isolated as the villages of Le Teilleul and Barenton are only a 5 minute drive away, offering a choice of bars and restaurants, boulangeries, banks, a boucherie and small but very well stocked supermarkets. There is a market each Thursday in Le Teilleul Champ de Foire. The north coast D-Day landing beaches of Omaha, Utah, Sword, Gold and Juno and the military cemeteries at Colleville-sur-Mer (American), Bayeux (British) and Beny-sur-Mer and Bretteville-sur-Laize (Canadian) are all within an easy drive from La Buissonniere, as is the fearsome Pointe du Hoc. The stunning beaches on the western coast from Granville, down along the Baie du Mont St Michel to the awesome UNESCO heritage site that is the Mont itself are also not to be missed. St. Malo, Rennes, William the Conqueror's birth town of Falaise, Bayeux, Avranches, Laval and the stunning medieval town of Fougeres are all excellent days out too. Activities for children include the beaches of Granville and Cancale, the Enchanted Village of Bellefontaine, Alligator Bay, Ange Michel, Champrepus Zoo, and Falaise Castle with its excellent interactive treasure hunt. A variety of tourist leaflets are available at the property but if you don't wish to venture too far there are numerous museums and Brocantes in the area to pass an enjoyable hour or two exploring bygone days and past heritage. Or, as the region is apple and pear country, why not visit our local cider producers and sample their delicious offerings of Cidre, Poiré and Calvados. The surrounding area is good for walking and cycling, with a network of Voies Verte in the region, but without doubt, whatever your interests, there will be something to please everyone in Normandy.
