Douliana is a quiet traditional village, West of the island, near the International Airport CHQ, only 22 km. The city of Chania, close to many beaches. The house belongs to our family since it was builded in later 1700’s. I’ve inherited this cottage from my grandmother in 1999 . I left Crete in 2001 and came to England to become mother and student and the house was left untouched for so long . Last year I was desperate to sale it for making some money that was much needed. However a short trip to Crete and visit to the house again had made their magic and it was my son that convinced me to just try and renovate as much as I can. Indeed the renovation started late September and it finished late April. It has been a very rocky path with tears and sleepless nights. Because I was here in England and not there. However my cousins were there and I’m grateful that they’ve helped me endlessly. Also the technology worked out to be useful so live messages and video calls with my workmen was daily routine . Ideal for families with young children, taking the car is not needed unless you want to do excursions and visit the rest of Crete. If your children are older, however, and you dream of discovering the mystery of the Knossos labyrinth or to cross the Samaria gorge, you can rent a car in the village or at the airport and drive around. Panormo is 45 min drive from the airport of Heraklion (the capital of Crete) and 20 minutes’ drive from Rethymnon. It is one and a half hours from Chania and 50 min drive from the closest beach on the south coast of Crete. The residence is a traditional restored stone house which is built on a site in the village called Myrtia. It consists of a living room with a mezzanine (used as a bedroom), a second bedroom, a kitchen and a spacious bathroom. There is a front yard and a back veranda overlooking the orchard garden in three tiers. The charcoal oven can also be used for a traditional roast meal. Our house is situated 15 kilometres away from the city of Heraklion, in the traditional village of Myrtia where there is also the "Nikos Kazantzakis" Museum. The "Nikos Kazantzakis" Museum pays tribute to the great man of the spirit, author, thinker, philosopher, politician and traveller Nikos Kazantzakis. The museum has literally become a world spiritual pilgrimage. Daily visitors arrive from all corners of the earth showing how timeless and timely this great Cretan, universal author and thinker Nikos Kazantzakis was. Myrtia village is part of the E4 European path and gives the visitor a great opportunity to view and discover Crete from a different point of view. The E4 European Path of Crete is a major European route under the supervision of the European Union’s Mountain Walking (EWV): the Greek section was designed and marked out by the Greek Mountaineering and Climbing Federation. East of the hill where the magnificent ruins of Minoan Knossos are situated, excavations have also brought to light traces of a Neolithic settlement which dates back to 6000 BC. "Nikos Kazantzakis" International Airport is 15 kilometres away and the closest beaches are approximately 11 kilometres away.
