De Winton is in southern Alberta
, Canada. It is located just south of the City of Calgary and west of Highway 2A (MacLeod Trail).
During the Second World War, a Royal Air Force pilot training school was located at the Royal Canadian Air Force air station at De Winton (today's De Winton/South Calgary Airport). Today this sleepy town offers visitors accommodations, vacation rentals and condo rentals with a real ‘home away from home’ feel.
Over the years De Winton Station Garden Railway has grown to become a truly unique property
that has adopted an overall “Western Town” theme with a significant railway influence. This popular visitor attraction has G-scale indoor & garden train displays. Meet the owner Barrie Roberts, and spend the day outdoors at his garden railway exhibit on Canada Day.
Less than 20 minutes away from De Winton is Fish Creek Provincial Park offers many opportunities for recreational activities throughout the year.
Whether you choose to explore by bicycle or on foot, enjoy a moment of quiet solitude beside the creek or cross-country ski through the forest, the park has something to offer regardless of age and physical ability. The area surrounding the visitor center moves from cultivated lawn to natural grasslands. Fish Creek and its ravine forest are a five minute walk south of the visitor center. Access to the creek is via a paved trail, though snow is not removed during the winter. The historic Bow Valley Ranch house and its associated buildings, a bunkhouse and cookhouse, add an historic interest to the site.
Various accommodations, vacation rental and condo rental options are dotted around this Provincial Park.
