Drenthe Accommodation

Drenthe, a province of the Netherlands is located in the north-east part of the country. Unlike many other areas of Holland, Drenthe is a sparsely populated rural area, and most of the land is used for farming. Accommodations and lodging, whether, hotel, vacation rentals or condo rentals abound in the cities and villages around the province. The quiet and natural beauty of the rural areas has begun to attract numerous tourists. Outdoors enthusiasts are drawn here by the wonderful hiking, biking and walking trails that stretch throughout the province. With its many lakes ponds and rivers, water sports are one of the great attractions to this area. If you’re looking to spend a couple of weeks with the family in a vacation rental or a romantic time alone with your significant other in a condo rental hidden away in a sleepy village, Drenthe is the place to go. Drenthe is known as the “Cycling Province” of Holland and one of Europe's best areas for cycling. With hundreds of kilometers of cycle paths winding their way through forests, heath, along the many canals and the many towns and villages that offer refreshments and accommodation along the way.

Golfers too can find a number of courses to play, many of them surrounded by the pristine farmlands that make up the province. For family fun bring the kids and try one of the many pitch and putt courses available. Walk out of your vacation rental in the morning, slip on a backpack and walk along the many roads and trails that meander through the countryside. For something different, how about participating in a mini survival course or learn archery. For the more romantically inclined take a canoe on the lake at night with only torch light to guide your way.

Many of the accommodations and vacation rentals are situated by the lakes and rivers of the area. Boating, canoeing, swimming and sailing are available for the adventurous. With all its lakes, ponds and rivers, there is an endless supply of water sports for everyone. Two of the biggest lakes, the Zuidlaardermeer and the Leekerstermeer offer endless sailing and surfing. The Hunze River is a great place for canoes, meandering for miles through the countryside.

For those who want to spend time in the cities and towns there are many sights and activities for everyone. Savoury local and European dishes can be found at many of the great restaurants in Assen the capital of Drenthe, or in Emmen, or Hoogeveen. With a rich cultural heritage dating back to prehistoric times, Drenthe has many historic and ancient sites, like Dolmens and Burial Mounds for visitors to see. Or take a tour through a museum, a gallery, or find arts and crafts for sale by local artists. No matter what you want to do, go find the accommodation you’re looking for and explore Drenthe.
