How to Get Here & Getting Around - The closest airport to Fernie is Canadian Rockies International Airport (YXC) in Cranbrook, BC. By car, Fernie is situated on Highway 3 (Crowsnest Pass Highway) that travels east to west from Alberta to BC. Highway 3 is the easiest and safest of all the highway going through the Rocky Mountains. The drive along the highway is also beautiful and only 30 minutes from the Alberta border.

It’s possible to walk or bike anywhere within the city, but the majority of locals drive (the winters are cold!) and some of the best things to see and do are farther than walking permits. Chances are, you’ll want a car to make your trip as smooth as possible. The drive from the rolling foothills and prairie ranches, through the looming peaks of the Crowsnest Pass into Fernie’s Rocky Mountains, is a gorgeous trip.

When to Go - Anytime between May and September are great times to enjoy summer. The period from the start of January until the first week of February is “Powder Season” where visitors can enjoy the best snow conditions and smaller crowds of the whole winter.

The front dining area, balcony and Master bedroom window seat all have panoramic views of the Columbia river valley and the Canadian Rockies. Heated wood and slate floors. Air hockey, table tennis and pool table await you down in the den. We have lots of board games, cards, puzzles and movies for your use. We are two avid skiers who bought our house for ski trips with family and friends and eventual retirement. We first skied at Kicking Horse in 2004 as part of our yearly ski trip with friends to the Canadian Rockies. Our day at Kicking Horse was the favorite of everyone on the trip. We couldn't believe how great the snow was, how big the mountain was and how few people there were. In 2009 we were looking to buy and we decided to come back to double check if everything we remembered about it was true. It was and we happened to stumble upon a great deal on this home and jumped at the opportunity. With any life changing event there is always a little voice that wonders if you are doing the right thing. That voice went away and never came back after we had to stop for a black wolf in the middle of the road between Banff and Golden. We knew this was the place for us. Choices include snowmobile tours, snowshoeing, dogsledding, sleigh rides, cross-country skiing, and torchlight run... the choice is yours. Wednesdays and Saturdays are Kids Night Out filled with activities and crafts and Torchlight Run & BBQ too. Sundays are Welcome Night - an excellent opportunity to meet the activity operators, ski school staff and get the inside scoop on all the events and programs.
