This cottage is Irish Tourist Board approved and has been lovingly restored, keeping as much as possible of the 'Old World' character of the cottage while adding all the modern comforts. The wide bridge which crosses the River Shannon to County Galway opens the way to tour the west of Ireland. Banagher is famous for its Irish music pubs, river cruises, golf courses, Bog walks and rail tours, great Fishing, Excellent super markets and shops, Restaurants, and Hotels. This is the only rental property on the farm and it has been the McDonald family home for generations. It is located close to the main farmhouse, in a nice farm garden with an orchard.     Our house is located in Messinia on the Peloponnese about 2 km from Koroni, 50 km from Kalamata and 300 km from Athens. The villa is beautifully situated in a 4500 sqm large olive grove with 70 olive trees that provides us with the finest olive oil you can imagine. Due to its high location, you have a fantastic view over the Messinian Gulf and the Mani Peninsula with the Taigetos mountains (about 2400 meters above sea level) in the background. Also the surroundings offer a spectacular view. There are two separate apartments. Upstairs is our own private holiday home and the ground floor is available for rental. The two floors are connected by outside stairs, there is no indoor connection between the apartments. The property is equipped according to Swedish standard and you will find everything you need here for a comfortable stay. We love this area and our house. The house was built in the years 2001 - 2002 and after our retirement we spend about 1/3 of the year here. The whole area is a quiet and relaxing place and the rental apartment is suitable for one or two couples who want to experience a relaxed and comfortable holiday in a secluded location with no “keep going”. There are many lovely beaches in the area. Two very nice beaches are below the house, the Agia Triada beaches. The nearest is located in about 10 minutes walking distance - a quite beach which you often can have all by yourself. The other part of the beach, you can walk to in about 15 minutes. This part of the beach is bigger and more frequented. The nearest villages are Koroni and Charakopió where you can find most of what you need for daily life. The olive groves that surround the house has endlessly walking paths and you can walk to Koroni at just over half an hour. The house is an excellent base for exploring the Peloponnese, which has many archaeological/historical sites such as Ancient Messene, Sparta, Mystras and Olympia, all perfectly reasonable to reach during a day.

    This comfortable, well equipped 90 square metre apartment is ideal for a couple or small family. It occupies the most ancient part of our beautifully restored stone farmhouse, revealing small traces of its 13th century origins during the restoration. The apartment sits below the main house, which was restored by us some years ago as a family home. This much loved and cared for property is still more family home than holiday rental. We return from Australia every year to maintain, fix, renew and update everything that needs attention. Both the house and the apartment were freshly painted throughout in 2016. The apartment restoration was done with the same attention to quality and detail as the main house upstairs. The two properties can be rented separately or together for larger groups. Please see Property ID 231966. Totally independent from the main house, the apartment has its own driveway and entrance (although both are at ground level because of the slope of the land). It is very spacious, refreshingly cool in summer and cosy in winter. Additional power supply supports the appliances, it has reliable plumbing and strong water pressure, and all the windows have screens, internal cypress shutters and pretty views across the valley. Traditional farmhouse furniture offers ample space for guests to unpack and completely settle in. The kitchen is well equipped for preparing meals at home, and the comfortable living spaces and good range of DVDs make a quiet night in a viable option. The apartment provides welcome respite after a busy day's sightseeing. While it does not share the main house garden, it does have its own private little dining terrace which faces the valley and our cypress lined track, and of course there are the surrounding woodland areas. The forest offers up its bounty such as porcini mushrooms, wild asparagus, even truffles, to intrepid locals who gather in small family groups to enjoy the tranquillity on sunny weekends. There are many lovely walks around the property, or just take a glass of Chianti to the bench in our little olive grove and watch the sunset. The property nestles in the hills 3.5 km above the village of San Polo in Chianti, so a car is a must. San Polo is slightly removed from the tourist turmoil yet it offers great essentials shopping, a fabulous restaurant and good road access to the must-see towns and sights of Tuscany. Proximity to Florence (about a 25 minute drive) gives us convenient autostrada access, although you can’t see, hear or even imagine an autostrada from this peaceful rural setting. Although we don’t live on site, we do have a loyal group of friends and retainers equipped to resolve any problems quickly and efficiently. A huge oak refectory table and antique boudoir grand loaded with family photos dominate the dining and living rooms. Sadly, having made the journey from the south of Italy to Australia then back to Tuscany, the piano is now more ornamental than musical. Antique farmhouse furniture offers ample space for guests to unpack and completely settle in, and the comfy Natuzzi sofas make a quiet night in with a DVD a viable option. Additional power supply supports the many appliances. There's reliable plumbing and strong water pressure. All windows have screens and internal cypress shutters. In summer the 400m elevation promotes refreshing breezes, while the thick stone walls help cool the interior. Efficient central heating keeps it warm and cosy in the cooler months. (Unfortunately the fireplace shown in the photo doesn't work.) The house nestles in the hills 3.5 km above the village of San Polo in Chianti, so a car is a must. San Polo is slightly removed from the tourist turmoil yet it offers great essentials shopping, a fabulous restaurant and good road access to the must-see towns and sights of Tuscany. Proximity to Florence gives us convenient autostrada access, although you can’t see, hear or even imagine an autostrada from our tranquil rural setting. Set in its own private fenced garden in a rural neighbourhood of farmhouses, olive groves and vegetable patches, each window of the house has a pretty outlook over the garden or the cultivated valley. The lawn is often scattered with daisies, and fireflies sometimes come out at night. The garden overlooks the Arno valley towards the Vallombrosa Monastery, nestled in the magnificent oak and pine woodlands of the central Apennines. The surrounding forest offers up its bounty of porcini mushrooms, wild asparagus, even truffles, to intrepid locals who gather in small family groups to walk off Sunday lunch and enjoy the peace on sunny weekends. Depending on the season, around the house and garden you may find grapes, plums, raspberries, apricots and figs. The squirrels usually get the hazelnuts and almonds. Although we don’t live on site, we do have a loyal group of friends and retainers equipped to resolve any problems quickly and efficiently. A booklet of information at the house covers the A to Z of how things work, plus support phone numbers. We encourage guests to sms us with any concerns so we can ensure a quick resolution of any issue. Ahead of the trip, all our guests receive a comprehensive booklet (PDF) of tips and recommendations for things to do and places to go. These are some of our favourite things.
