The nearest major airport to Kaneohe, Hawaii is Honolulu International Airport . This airport is 10 miles from the center of Kaneohe. Located on the east side (the windward side) of the island about twenty minutes from Honolulu, Kaneohe Bay is protected by the only true barrier reef in Hawaii. This vast stretch of water contains five small islands, including the famous Coconut Island. In the middle of the bay are a few sandbanks just a couple of feet deep, where people often hang out and hold beach parties.

The drive on the “Kam” [Kamehameha] Highway from your lodging offers some of the most breathtaking views in the world. It is easy to see why Kaneohe Bay Beach Park is the stuff of Hollywood. This so-called “living postcard” has provided a scenic backdrop for dozens of popular movies and TV series, the most notable being Pearl Harbor, Gilligan’s Island and 50 First Dates. Hawaiian chiefs reportedly chose this place to build their sacred fishponds, and its historical vibe can be felt up to this day. Nowadays, accommodations are common in the area. The bay is also a breeding ground for hammerhead sharks. Thousands of them are born here every year and spend their first few months in the shallow water. Marine scientists flock to the bay as well to study these oddly-shaped creatures. Surprisingly, these sharks aren’t dangerous. Snorkelers regularly swim among them during the breeding season. Eventually, the hammerhead sharks swim out to the deeper waters where they grow up to 13 feet in length.

The Bus stops in front of the Elks Club next door. You can make connections to all parts of Oahu using The Bus. This condo does not offer a million dollar view.....It is a TEN million dollar view. It will take your breath away. You have an unobstructed view of Diamond Head while you eat breakfast, hundreds of surfers waiting for the next wave, dozens of sailboats, submarines, cargo barges, aircraft of all sorts, Waikiki just down the street, gorgeous, soothing Dillingham Fountain and 500 acre Kapiolani Park across from the condo. Do you enjoy whale-watching. From December to April it is possible to see whales from the east-facing window of the apartment. If the Star of Honolulu, a whale-watching ship, stops off to the east, it is likely because their radar has spotted whales in that area. King-sized bed, Heavenly. The king-sized bed is extremely comfortable. You can see the Ocean without lifting your head off the pillow. The futon mattress and cover are newer. The futon mattress is spring-filled. There are lots of mirrors and lights in this galley bathroom. The tub, with shower, is surrounded by sparkling white tiles, made brighter by the floor to ceiling window at the foot of the tub. The window opens for excellent ventilation. There is a flat, but slightly ramped, surface from the front sidewalk all the way to the elevator. The bathroom door might be too narrow for some wheelchairs. A wheelchair can access the flagstone patio at the oceanfront side of the building to enjoy meals while watching surfers and sailboats. There is a bar-sized fridge. Beside it is a cabinet that contains an earthenware dinnerware set of coffee mugs, bowls, lunch and dinner plates. There is a set of knives, forks and spoons, as well as a paring knife, spatulas, cork screw and can opener. The fridge has a small freezer. An ice machine is located beside the laundry area. There is enough counter space to prepare many simple meals. You can prepare a wide variety of meals with the rice cooker, electric kettle, toaster, electric frying pan, coffee maker, coffee bean grinder & microwave. There is a phone with two handsets and answering machine, connected to a landline. Local calls are free. Long distance calls require a phone card. There is lots of affordable metered parking directly across the street. The coin operated washers & dryers are located on the parking level.
