Kapoho is a delightful spot on Hawaii's Big Island. It is a quiet community on the eastern tip of the island and is near Hilo. Although on the same side of the island as Hilo, Kapoho has half of the annual rainfall. That in itself makes Kapoho an ideal spot for your next vacation.

You won’t find the white sand beaches and fancy resorts that you would find on the Kona side, but what you will find is just as amazing. Kapoho is a water-lover’s paradise with tide pools and lagoons formed out of the flowing lava from the Kilauea volcano. The area is a gem for snorkelling. Vacation rentals make for an excellent lodging option.

If tropical rainforests alongside tall mountains, waterfalls, lagoons, tide pools, exotic gardens and rugged lava coastlines sound like an intriguing vacation destination then you will want to visit this unspoiled side of Hawaii. Don’t forget, there is also an active volcano! For accommodations in Kapoho, try Owner Direct Vacation Rentals and see why so many choose to rent their accommodation while on vacation.

Accommodations in Kapoho vary, but you will find ocean front and ocean view vacation homes, villas and condo rentals. Year round, Kapoho has excellent weather. You will find temperatures average above 70 degrees (F) all year round, and coupled with the warm water temperatures it is no wonder that people choose to visit Kapoho. While sunny skies and warm temperatures are normal in Kapoho it is possible to enjoy the sunshine along the coast and then catch a snow flake on the mountaintop. It is important to keep in mind that it cools the higher you go so be prepared.

  • Hale O'hia Lehua - Near

    Volcano: Vacation Rental
    3 BDR • 2 BA • Sleeps 7 • #236106
    275 to 275 USD/night
This brand new, beautifully decorated 3 bedroom 2 bath home is the perfect location for sightseeing the east side of The Big Island, and just 2 miles to the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park entrance.. Centrally located near the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park in Mauna Loa Estates subdivision, and only about 30 minutes to Hilo, you are convenient to all of the sights and sounds that the east side of the Big Island has to offer. From here, swimming and snorkeling in Punalu’u Black Sands Beach or in Hilo is a 30-minute drive in either direction, and the Volcanoes National Park is practically in your backyard. Hale ‘Ohi’a Lehua sits perfectly on its private, quiet landscaped 1/2 acre with citrus and other fruit trees in the backyard, and the native Hapu’u ferns surround the edge of the property. Enjoy BBQ’ing outside and the crisp mountain air at 3500’ elevation. The large lanai is the perfect place to relax with a cup of coffee or tea in the morning, or a great book in the afternoon. Cozy up to the gas fireplace in the living room on those chilly Volcano evenings. Hale ‘Ohi’a Lehua sleeps 6-7 comfortably with a regular king bed in the master, a queen in the 2nd bedroom, and a twin & double bunk-bed in the 3rd bedroom. The master bedroom has its own large private bathroom with a huge walk-in shower. WHAT TO PACK: The Island of Hawaii, aka the Big Island, boasts over 4,000 square miles and 10 different climate zones, within which are many micro climate zones. You may think that packing your favorite swimsuit and slippers (flip flops) is enough, but not true if you plan on doing any hiking or sightseeing around the island. Hawaii Volcanoes National Park can get quite chilly with temperatures dropping down to the low 40s at night, sometimes lower, so do bring your favorite warm pajamas and at least a light jacket. It actually snows often on Mauna Kea, but they close those roads whenever there are blizzard conditions present. If you plan on doing a lava hike, you should consider bringing your hiking boots, as you’ll want good ankle support for this 1/2-day or more experience. At the very least, bring a solid pair of tennis shoes and don’t attempt the lava hike in flip flops. - 3 Bedrooms, 2 Baths (Sleeps 6-7) - Beds: 1 King, 1 Queen, 1 Twin/Double bunkbed - Television/Dish TV - NO INTERNET SERVICE AT THIS TIME – Please bring your own wifi device or use your cell phone - Full Kitchen - All Cooking Utensils - Microwave - Dishwasher - DVD/CD Player - Lots of DVDs - BBQ Grill - Gas - Washer & Dryer - Many Restaurants Close - No Smoking - No Pets - Hilo 30 min. - Kilauea 2 min. Kapoho News and Events

Kapoho Travel Guide - Owner Direct Vacation Rentals: Kapoho is located on the southeastern coast of The Big Island of Hawaii. It sits on the rift fault between Pahoa and Koae near Kapoho Bay at the end of the island. In the distance is the start of the uprising effect and of the rift that traverses all the way through the great crack in Ka'u.

Hiking, biking, fishing, swimming, surfing, snorkeling and golfing are just a few of the activities one can take part in at Kapoho. Visit Volcano National Park, beautiful waterfalls, secluded beaches or the quaint town of Pahoa.

The geothermal utility plant, which provides about one third the electric power for the whole island, is located in this area. Hopefully, it is built on lucky ground. The 1960 Kapoho Flow affirms that there is potential for further volcanic action here.

No matter what your preferences, activities and sports are, you will find lots to do on the Big Island! Check the events website for the latest information ...
