Langford Accommodations

Langford is on southern Vancouver Island, within the province of British Columbia, Canada. It is considered one of Greater Victoria's Western Communities. Its municipal neighbors are Colwood to the southeast, Highlands to the north, Metchosin to the southwest, and View Royal to the northeast. The area is dotted with comfortable accommodations, vacation rentals and condo rentals.

A new park was also built in remembrance of Canadian war veterans. It can be found on the southeast corner of the city's main traffic intersection: Veterans Memorial Parkway and Goldstream Avenue.

Things to do in Langford include shopping at Westshore Town Centre (formerly Canwest Mall) and taking in some county-fair style amusement and food at Luxton Fair, which takes place in mid-September at the local fairgrounds. Visitors can also participate in go-karting and mini-golfing, and watch stock-car racing, at Western Speedway. Summer is a very popular time for both local and international visitors so make sure to book your accommodation, vacation rental or condo rental in advance in order to avoid disappointment.

Langford is surrounded by many beautiful parks. Goldstream Provincial Park offers a truly spectacular sight during the annual salmon run in the fall (late October to the end of November), which can be viewed from bridges and pathways alongside the meandering river that flows into Finlayson Arm. In Goldstream Park visitors will find five interconnecting nature walks and trails. The natural beauty of the environment, including a lush ancient forest and a little waterfall on Niagara Creek, makes this a special place to explore. Visitors can easily spend an hour strolling through the impressive old-growth rain forest that thrives here. Western red cedar, some as much as 600 years old, shades the trails beside the picnic ground.

Whether you enjoy hiking, cycling, roller blading, horseback riding, or just going for a stroll, the Galloping Goose Regional Trail is the place to be. The 100km multi-use trail links the communities of View Royal, Colwood, Metchosin, and Sooke.

Climb Mt. Finlayson (1,375 feet/413 m) for superb views of Finlayson Arm and the surrounding Victoria area. The trailhead is located on the east side of Mount Finlayson Road, just past the Goldstream Park day-use parking lot and the bridge over the Goldstream River. The strenuous 3-mile (5-km return) trail to the top of Mount Finlayson may not be lengthy but it is steep and rugged.

Langford also boasts the spectacular new Bear Mountain Golf and Country Club. Nearby Victoria offers 8 championship golf courses in close proximity, including Cordova Bay Golf Club, Olympic View Golf Club, Gorge Vale Golf Club, and Royal Colwood Golf Club. Oak Bay has the Uplands Golf Course and Victoria Golf Club. Many accommodations and holiday lodging offer golf packages.

I had the pleasure of calling it home for four months this past winter/spring. Beautifully appointed, with top quality furnishings, the suite is very private, wonderfully comfortable and impeccably clean. I loved watching the sunrise from the bedroom and later, as the days warmed in the spring, meals on the patio were heaven. The location, while blissfully rural, is very central with easy access to ferries, the airport, the town of Sydney and villages of Saanichton and Brentwood Bay, beaches and hiking all about 10 minutes away. Downtown Victoria is about 20 to 40 minutes depending on the time of day. The owners are wonderful hosts, graciously making me feel very much at home on their lovely property. The dogs were delightful company, but never intrusive in any way. I am very grateful to have spent four months living there. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
