COSTA SMERALDA / LISCIA DIN VACCA -PORTO CERVO AREA
The "Costa Smeralda" with Liscia di Vacca is 30/40km north of Olbia (airport, seaport, and town). This coast line is of an incredible beauty and when Aga Kan around 1970"discovered" it and developed a few luxury hotels for the rich and the beautiful, it soon became a much loved holiday destination, both for Italians and for foreigners .The seaside, the incredible blue-green sea, the white sandy beaches with rocky intervals, outstanding headlines, deep bays and inlets makes it all breathtaking.
The beaches in Liscia di Vacca are all free to the public, are either sandy or partly rocky, most secluded and hidden. Marina's, small seaports, sailing and surf schools, entertainment for all ages, you will enjoy every day of your holiday. Nearby Porto Cervo, Baia Sardinia: are trendy little seaports with exclusive shops, restaurants and night clubs.
The hikers, bikers find wonderful tracks in the surroundings, for climbers a wide choice.
THE SARDINIA REGION
Sardinia is the second large island in the Mediterranean Sea, with a typical Mediterranean climate: dry and warm in summer with steady winds - a paradise for sailors and surfers, in winter an average temperature of 11-17 C degrees with some rain showers which makes it also wonderful for a winter break.
The island has been dominated over the centuries by surrounding populations: Phoenicians, Carthaginians, the Roman Empire, Vandals, Berbers, and the Spanish crown, it gained independence in the 18th century and after that became part of Italy. The " Nuraghi" prehistoric dwellings can still be admired in the country side, which are now all archeological sites.
The island has beautiful coastlines, with lot of small islands around, inland is hilly and even mountainous. There are only a few towns (Cagliari, Alghero, Olbia, and Sassari) and no industry of any importance. So no fear for negative environmental impacts. The interior is very sparsely populated.
Sardinia is home to a wide range of rare and uncommon plants and animals, favored by environmental laws: this region has the largest forest extension.
National parks: “Asinara", “La Maddalena”, “Gennargentu" you should not miss.
Cuisine: seafood, rock lobster, scampi, bottarga. Furthermore suckling pigs, wild boar, sheep cheese and special "dry bread”. Remember to taste the very good white local wines
