Red River Accommodations

For visitors and tourists wanting to spend time in the great outdoors and are looking for vacation rentals, condo rentals, accommodations or other lodging, Red River New Mexico is the place to go. The region is steeped in history. Ute and Jucarilla Apaches fought and raided in the area. Explorers, trappers and prospectors put the city on the map. Hundreds of mines were carved out of the surrounding mountains, mines with names like Black Copper and Silver King. The mines eventually played out, but by that time homesteaders outnumber prospectors and the town grew. It gained new momentum by renting out abandoned mining cabins to visitors seeking refuge from the heat. In the late 1920’s it became known as the “mountain playground” that it is today. With abundant accommodation, condo rental, hotels and vacation rental, Red River is a gateway to outdoor activities.

As the Southwest heats up in the summer, Red River area remains a cool mountain retreat. A variety of outdoor activities beckon, from golfing, white water rafting on the famous Rio Grande to hiking, fishing, biking or even just sitting in the shade and do nothing at all. The Red River area is a must for winter recreation, with downhill skiing in the mountains, tobogganing and other cold weather activities.

North of Red River is the Great Sand Dunes were wind and erosion by water and ice has created an impressive display of volcanic sand. This National Monument covers 55 square miles and provides great hiking trails. Great Sand Dunes Country Club offers a fine 18-hole golf course. Travel south and west to Los Alamos, home of Los Alamos National Laboratory, established in 1943 to develop the first atomic weapon.

The town is known for events in the summer months, like the Classic Car Show, Blues Fest, Oktoberfest, or the Art & Wine Festival there are many exciting activities for visitors and locals alike. Imagine walking out of your vacation rental, vacation home or other accommodation and experiencing mock bank robberies and shootouts at Frye’s Old Town. In the evening, enjoy a chuck wagon style dinner and a western stage show under the stars.

After a day of skiing or hiking you’ll be ready to head back to your vacation rentals and relax with family and friends, or head into town for a spicy New Mexican meal or a romantic dinner for two. Red River has more than nineteen restaurants, seven bars, forty lodges and other accommodations. For the shopper there are boutiques, galleries, jewellery stores, souvenir shops and more.

Today the Ranch Headquarters is a 60 room compound that includes an Old West Saloon, Wedding Chapel, Theatre, Gallery, Bunkhouse and 27 room Main Ranch House. Not a "dude" or working ranch, but an Historic glimpse into the legendary million acre cattle empire. Tour the Main House where Cattle Baron Tom Lyons and wife Ida Campbell lived their lavish lives, then relax in the pool, the Historic old saloon, or enjoy the art and music filled Gallery. As a friend describes "It's like a ride on a very nice old train". The Gate House is a newly renovated, well appointed accommodation perfect for a couple, or couple "plus one", if they are willing to sleep on the couch. King Size four-post bed, Air conditioned, full kitchen, Satellite TV, private bathroom with Jacuzzi. (Two more apartments will be ready next year.) Once you're settled in, time to check out the Ranch. The National Park Service, in their publication "The Cattleman's Empire" described the million acre ranch as "Overshadowing all other ranching operations in the Southwest", and “The L C Ranch remains as one of the last surviving Great Ranch Houses of the Old West”. The cattle, cowboys and million acres are long gone. Cattle Baron Tom Lyons was murdered in El Paso in 1917. An Englishman, Tom Lyons' feudal empire collapsed shortly after his demise. His 27 room adobe mansion, lavishly refurnished, remains along with all the outbuildings of the Ranch Headquarters.

Don't just visit the famous Santa Fe galleries -- stay in the home of one of its best artists! Built in the 1920s, perfectly restored, and pet-friendly, this 2-house compound immerses you in history! Located right on Canyon Road, the Cassidy Compound consists of a main house (2 bedrooms, 2 full baths) and a connected guest house (1 bedroom, 1 sleeper sofa, 1 full bath) enclosed within a gorgeous garden including patios, a working chiminea, and plenty of shade. If you've ever wondered what it felt like to live and work as an artist in Santa Fe, the Cassidy Compound gives you the total experience! Step inside the light, airy living space of the main house and you immediately see the viga (open-beam) ceiling, kiva fireplace, and warm-toned tiled flooring of the New Pueblo style of Santa Fe architecture. And mingled with the new is the comfortable and homey, from the huge leather armchairs in the TV nook to the shuttered windows and Native American-print woven rugs, crafts, and art. This room is long, reaching the length of the house to end in floor-to-ceiling glass leading out to the backyard and patio. You will find it pleasantly striped with light for much of the day. At one end of the common area is the dining room, where the group can gather for meals, games, and meetings. Map out your "plan of attack" for shops and galleries, find a new hiking trail, or simply break out the Uno cards and enjoy some much-needed playtime! And if you like sitting down to a formal meal every now and again, be assured that Cassidy Compound has all the dishes and serving ware you need -- in addition to a fully stocked kitchen with appliances large and small, gadgets and chef's tools galore, and plenty of space to move around in! The kitchen is a treat for the whole group. Large windows over the sink spill sunshine into this bright space, while wooden cupboards and drawers are packed with everything you need to prepare a feast (or just to reheat the excellent takeout from Santa Fe's fine eateries!). And when it's time to get some rest, the two bedrooms in the main house assure everyone of a peaceful night's sleep. The master suite is fantastic, featuring a king-sized bed, private TV, sitting area with comfy curved sofa, and en-suite bath decorated in bold and beautiful colors. The guest room is luxe as well, offering a queen-sized bed and overstuffed reading chair, plus access to another full bathroom. Of course, all linens and towels are provided for every bed and bath at Cassidy Compound, including the queen-sized sofa sleeper in the guest house. Check the closets for plenty of extra pillows, blankets, and other comforts to induce long naps and late mornings! The guest house is every bit as well-equipped as the main, with spiral stairs leading to a charming loft bedroom -- private, easy to access, and very comfortable, with a queen-sized bed and plenty of storage -- plus its own living room (with sleeper sofa), dining area, bathroom w/ both a tub and shower option, and kitchen with all major appliances except a fridge! You will love the design of the guest house as much as its larger counterpart -- this is not an improvised living space, but a fully furnished, decorated, and beautiful home in its own right. As lovely as the two houses are, the patio and garden area rival them for great appeal. If you are traveling with pets, you will appreciate this walled space even more. There are few established, enduring gardens like this one in downtown Santa Fe, with old-growth trees, a welcoming grassy lawn, and beautifully landscaped areas of sun and shade. The formal patio offers dappled sunlight with plenty of comfy seating, a grill, and a table and chairs for al fresco dining. Follow the path around the house to enjoy flower borders and a chiminea tucked to one side. Or simply snooze beneath the vine-covered arbor, listening to rustle of birds in the trees! The Cassidy Compound is a private gem, tucked away in plain sight on Canyon Road. The location is incredible, the accommodations luxe, and the ambiance both stimulating and relaxing. Two living rooms, a gourmet kitchen, and comfy bedrooms await! Sunset Haven earns its name every day with world-class views of the sinking sun. Located just southeast of Santa Fe, this beloved family home is just a 15-minute drive from the Plaza, but you will feel miles from everywhere when you stroll the beautiful grounds and watch the light change on the hillsides. This is an older home, built for comfort and ease, from the covered walkway (so welcome in all seasons!) to the large, angled deck with its rock-star vista of the sunset. There's room for the whole gang to spread out and get comfortable at Sunset Haven. Settle into the formal living room with comfy sofas and chairs gathered around a fireplace, or opt for the den with a leather sectional in front of a big HDTV, a shuffleboard game, and a bistro table and chairs for two. Whether your passion is reminiscing with loved ones, playing video games, or rediscovering the joy of backgammon, Sunset Haven has a pleasant spot just right for you! And when the group gets peckish, explore the fine kitchen at Sunset Haven to make short work of any cooking you might need to do. Pick up a few groceries on the way in, and you will find yourself equipped to do anything from chopping to blending to baking. Nothing is more fun, during a busy vacation, then a night "in" with creative appetizers and drinks whipped up from whatever's in the fridge. Of course, if you actually want to dine in style as a group, gather in the sunny dining room at Sunset Haven and feast to your heart's content! The views will keep you interrupting one another to point out spectacular changes in the sky, and before you know it, you may have cleared away the dishes and set up a board game, ready for a night of family fun. Chances are, though, you will want to dine al fresco as often as possible at Sunset Haven. There's simply no resisting this big, wide-open deck, with plenty of seating, bistro tables, and views from many angles. Prepare to dazzle the folks back home with photos of "your" mountains and rolling foothills! When the final glass has been drained and everyone has wished on a star (or perhaps been lucky enough to see one shoot through the velvety black sky), it's time for bed. This is a special treat for the youngest members of your group, who will thrill to their large "clubhouse" room with 2 sets of bunkbeds. A twin-sized mattress on top and a double on the bottom means that you can sleep many ankle-biters in these 2 sets of bunks. And there is still floor space to set up race car tracks and play houses, so the kids can entertain themselves while the grown-ups sleep late one morning! In addition to the kids' quarters, you will find 3 more bedrooms at Sunset Haven, each with a queen-sized bed, plenty of windows, and closets to stash all that ski equipment or hiking gear. The master suite is set up so that you can watch the sun set right from the bed -- or, if that's not close enough, slip out the door to the deck for a better view! The ensuite bath offers a walk-in shower, and of course every bed and bath here at Sunset Haven is equipped with linens, towels, and spares. Snuggle up and enjoy your rest after a busy day in Santa Fe! The other two bedrooms are equally well-appointed, and Sunset Haven boasts 4 full bathrooms, so there are always plenty of open doors during the morning rush. Tubs as well as showers are available, suiting everyone's needs. We even have a big laundry room for your use, with washer and dryer. Next time you travel to Santa Fe, treat yourself to a stay at Sunset Haven. This location combines the feeling of "getting away from it all" with the practicality of a quick drive to the heart of the city. Beautiful, lavishly appointed, and ready for your big group, this house is the perfect venue for your northern New Mexico adventures.

Sink into deep leather sofas and easy chairs, put your feet up, turn on the giant HDTV and DVD player, and let the reality wash over you; you are in the heart of downtown Santa Fe, in your own luxurious rental with nothing to do but soak it all in! It's surprisingly light in this room, and you will soon notice high windows placed to catch the sunshine. This gives you privacy on the ground floor, yet the beauty of all that New Mexico sun, too! Oh, and if you actually want to eat here, rest assured that there are dishes, glasses, silverware, and all the trimmings enough to host a multi-course feast. (No pressure, though. Who can resist Santa Fe's mouth-watering restaurants and street food?) At the end of the evening, travel up the stairs to the open-plan master suite, where you will be wowed by a gorgeous inlaid viga ceiling, breezy ceiling fan, big private TV with DVD player, walk-in closet, and best of all, a thoroughly comfortable king-sized bed. If you sometimes have trouble sleeping well away from home, rest in assurance here! You will love this bed and your back will thank you in the morning. The en-suite bath is lovely too, with a walk-in shower and excellent lighting. Or, if you prefer a liquid massage, visit the Jacuzzi in the second bathroom, which is in the upstairs hall so that all may indulge! After a day on the slopes, hiking trails, or busy city streets, your muscles will appreciate a little pampering. The second bedroom offers a plump, comfy queen-sized bed and plenty of floor space, while the third contains a twin bed (made up as a daybed) with a pull-out trundle. Last-minute guests have a way of arriving when you visit Santa Fe, and at Vista del Cielo, you will be ready! And this house is stocked with just about everything you need to make your stay more enjoyable. There is no better way to end a perfect day in northern New Mexico, whether snow is deep on the ground or the heat of the day is lifting off from the high desert. With all the glories of the historic city at your fingertips, you will love the convenience of staying here. But a great location is only the beginning of Vista del Cielo's many charms. If you have ever yearned to inhabit old Santa Fe in all its southwestern style glory, Cowboy on the Acequia is the casita you must rent. It's authentic charm and modern comforts will beguile you! Located just a block away from Canyon Road in the heart of Santa Fe, Cowboy on the Acequia combines the best of ancient and brand-new. This adobe house really is like the cabin on a large ranch that Cowboys might have inhabited between cattle drives -- except that it is beautifully decorated and has all the "mod cons" you could wish, from heating and air conditioning to high-speed WiFi, cable, multiple TVs, and a DVD/CD player! But it's hard to realize just how perfectly updated Cowboy on the Acequia really is when you first step into this enchanting casita. The rustic living room with wood-burning kiva stove in one corner, cowhide-covered couch in another, could have come to life from the pages of a Willa Cather novel. Sink into that big armchair in the corner, admiring the carved wooden furniture and polished-brick floor, and you can begin to feel Old New Mexico seeping into your bones! (But was it always this comfortable and pretty?!) This house gets its name from the old watercourse, still in operation, that runs along its street. The Acequia Madre provided irrigation as early as the 17th Century and is still viable. As you settle into Cowboy on the Acequia, you realize that you aren't just emulating history here; you're living it! The living room is charming, but the kitchen is a downright scene-stealer in this house. Open shelves, a rustic central table that actually may have been a butcher block, tiled counters and chile ristras hanging among the copper pots and pans -- for a minute you can imagine it really is the old West! Luckily, the spotless range, fridge, and other appliances mean that you don't have to cook like a pioneer . . . just enjoy the ambiance! When the food is ready (or should we say, "rustled up"), serve it at the sweet dining room table beneath spotlights. Each room is a separate jewel box here at Cowboy on the Acequia, with its own treasures and unique beauty. Notice the fine southwestern rugs warming your toes, the fascinating viga ceilings, and the built-in shelving. They don't build houses like this anymore! Two bedrooms and two full baths make Cowboy on the Acequia the perfect venue for two couples or a family traveling together. Each bedroom has a queen-sized bed, private TV, kiva fireplace, and easy access to a bath. One of the most interesting aspects of the bedrooms is the ceilings, richly detailed and so beautiful. With all there is to do in Santa Fe, there's not a chance you won't fall into bed exhausted each night, but even so, this house provides you with something lovely to look at as you drift off to sleep! The bathrooms are brightly tiled, stocked with linens and towels to spare, and equipped with a shower and tub option. Inlaid viga-style ceilings and rustic wooden furnishings make them irresistible, too! And although you may not want to leave your little casita, the patio and garden at Cowboy on the Acequia are worth daydreaming away a few hours in, too. Walled and very private despite its middle-of- city location, the property is spacious and well ordered, with seating on the covered patio as well as a table and chairs in the sunshine. In every season, you will find lovely places to enjoy the Santa Fe breezes here! And when you step outside the gates, you are in the heart of the artist's colony, just minutes from superb art galleries, restaurants, shops, and more. Santa Fe is a walking town, and your journeys to and fro Cowboy on the Acequia may turn out to be as lovely as many of the sights you will see. Visit Santa Fe from the heart of its history: come stay at Cowboy on the Acequia!

Situated atop a mesa in the northern part of the city, it is completely private and offers breathtaking views of the Sangre de Cristo mountains, the Sun and Moon mountains, and the Espanola Valley. Its name comes from the elevated entryway roof and the butterfly-like shape of this 2,100 sqft single-floor home. But you may think the spacious layout and featherlight ambiance of Butterfly House is even more evocative of bright, fluttery beauty. Even before you enter the front door, you know you're in for something special. A sweeping circular drive carries you upwards to the main entry, past a bright blue garage/workroom and a generous entertaining area covered in a local gravel called Santa Fe brown crusher fines. Beautiful landscaping and wide spaces contribute to the luxe feel of this property, but they pale in comparison to the design features indoors. Enter the double glass doors beneath the upturned butterfly wing of the roof, and you will find yourself in a large, spare, ultra-modern living space. Concrete flooring of burnished cocoa and gleaming white walls are highlighted with an occasional pop of brilliant color: red in the living room and kitchen, gold in the master bedroom, and aquamarine in the master bath. Floor-to-ceiling windows, sliding glass doors, pocket doors, and perfectly-placed minimal furnishings all contribute to the feeling of vast open space and breathability. There are 360-degree views from Butterfly House, and not a curtain or carpet to mar the vista (or harbor allergens). The fireplace is a pocket in a bright red accent wall in the living room, creating the perfect glowing focal point on chilly evenings. It is set high enough in the wall to prevent you from having to kneel to feed the flames, and is surrounded by windows and a very large, comfortable couch, area rug, and triangular coffee table. Connected to this area is a simple wood and glass dining table designed for 4, adjacent to the large, open kitchen and breakfast bar. Birch cabinetry and polished black granite countertops give a clean and spare look to this gourmet kitchen, which is completely equipped with all the appliances, utensils, cookware, and serving dishes you would wish. Double ovens, a range, microwave, dishwasher, and more make preparing meals in this kitchen a dream. There is even a laptop nook in one corner, set apart from the openness of the dining and living area. Butterfly House has two bedrooms as well as an office in which to work or play. The master suite features a queen-sized bed, flat-screen TV, and access to the spacious patio through double glass doors; its en-suite bathroom includes a large walk-in shower with inset seat and plentiful windows overlooking the hills and sky. The second bedroom also offers a queen-sized bed, enviable views of the countryside, and a full bath featuring a combination shower and tub. Indoor living is exquisite at Butterfly House, but outdoor living rivals it for sheer beauty! The spacious covered patio is beautifully tiled, its shade awning offering filtered light and plenty of fresh breezes. This is a fine place to grill out and linger for hours over a bottle of wine, savoring the stunning panoramic views beyond the low adobe-colored walls. The landscape is always changing and will surprise you every day with new wonders. For all its privacy and feeling of remoteness, Butterfly House is quite convenient to all the sights of Santa Fe, from the Plaza to the Opera House. You will feel as though you are on top of the world when you look out over the mountains and valley, but a short drive brings you back into the heart of New Mexico culture and vibrant activity. Book a stay at Butterfly House today, and experience the peace and beauty of this phenomenal property up close!

When it comes to location, Artist Road #2 is tough to beat. The Jemez Mountains are in glorious view from the front patio of the 2-bedroom condo; the 2nd patio looks out over the serene Santa Fe brush. At the same time, Santa Fe Plaza, the heart of downtown, is just a short walk away, as are restaurants, shops, museums, and galleries. As soon as you walk up the path to the front door of Artist Road #2 you’ll know you chose the right place for your vacation. The bistro table and chairs of the covered patio are perfect for enjoying breakfast while gazing out at the mountains. If you wake up early one morning, be sure to head outside to catch the sunrise—it’s spectacular. Inside, the open-plan living/dining/kitchen area is decorated in classic Southwestern style, from the tiled floor to the viga beams of the ceiling. Stretch out on the futon sofa to watch a movie on the flat-screen TV with cable and a Blu-ray player; curl up in the recliner with a book; gather around the wood-burning kiva fireplace for après-ski drinks: You’ll feel wonderfully at home in the living area. If you need to catch up on work, set yourself up at the desk tucked into a corner of the dining area and take advantage of the free WiFi. Hopefully, though, you’ll be using the dining area primarily to spend quality time with family and friends. The dining table seats 6, and when you’re not eating there, you can deal a hand of rummy or play a board game. As for the kitchen, it’s equipped with all the appliances, cookware, gadgets, and tableware you could possibly need, whether you’re planning to host a holiday feast or simply whip up coffee and toast in the mornings. Down the hall are the condo’s 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Having a full bathroom for each bedroom is so convenient! The master bedroom includes a queen-size bed, plenty of storage, and perhaps best of all, French doors that open onto the 2nd patio. You can bound out of bed first thing in the morning and head outside to revel in the crisp mountain breeze; you can also slip outside for a late-night drink under the star-studded sky (so romantic!). The 2nd bedroom is furnished with 2 twin beds and its own flat-screen TV. If you have additional guests, you can open up the futon in the living area; it converts into a queen-size bed, enabling the condo to sleep 6 people in all. You’ll arrive at Artist Road #2 to find the beds beautifully made up, extra bedding ready and waiting, and plenty of clean towels in the bathrooms. Another benefit of staying at Artist Road #2 is the condo complex’s indoor swimming pool; it’s open year-round, and as a guest, you’ll have free access. The complex also has a shared washer and dryer for your convenience. And speaking of convenience, how about the location? Artist Road #2 is less than a mile—easy walking distance—from the shops, galleries, and well-groomed park of Santa Fe Plaza; the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum; the adobe Palace of the Governors; the New Mexico Museum of Art; Loretto Chapel, with its striking spiral staircase; and the Museum of Contemporary Indian Arts, to name just a few attractions. Ski Santa Fe is less than a half-hour by car; even closer are the hiking trails of Atalaya Mountain. At Artist Road #2, everything from mountains to museums is just outside your door. So book your stay today, and make your dream Santa Fe vacation a reality.

Rising Sun at the Plaza A 2,300-square- foot home that can sleep 4 people (and a canine companion too), Rising Sun at the Plaza is a beauty. But more than a stunning place in which to stay, it’s also within walking distance of Santa Fe Plaza, as well as a quick drive to the mountains. And the views are so gorgeous, you can easily forget that you’re just a few blocks from downtown. The great room of Rising Sun at the Plaza truly is worthy of the term. Its double-height vaulted ceiling, bountiful windows, and French doors give it an open, airy ambiance, which is accentuated by the pale walls and tiled floors. The great room has 2 seating areas: one where you can watch a movie on the flat-screen TV with cable and enjoy après-ski drinks by the fireplace, the other where you can curl up in an armchair to read or sprawl out on a sofa and surf the web via the free WiFi. The dining area is just as gorgeous, with a table that can seat 8 with ease. Or you can dine alfresco, at the patio’s large table or at one of the balcony’s more intimate tables. Both the patio and the balcony are covered so that you can relax in the shade, and both look out toward the mountains. On a clear, sunny day (and Santa Fe has plenty of those!), you’ll feel as if you’re in paradise… and you just may be! The patio has a grill as well, so you can enjoy barbecue with your margaritas. Once you see the thoroughly outfitted kitchen, though, you may opt to cook a deluxe feast instead. With its pro-quality stainless-steel appliances, wealth of cookware, gleaming countertops, and handsome cabinets, the kitchen is a chef’s dream. If you think the kitchen is luxe, wait until you see the bathroom. You don’t usually decide on a vacation rental based on the bathroom, but Rising Sun at the Plaza’s is truly exceptional. Decorated in the same elevated Southwestern style as the rest of the home, it includes both a walk-in shower and a soaking tub—a long bath in the latter is just what your tired muscles will crave after a day on the slopes or the hiking trail. There are also dual sinks, doors that open onto a balcony, and even a sitting area. The master bedroom is on the main floor, while a 2 nd sleeping area makes up the loft. Both have sumptuous king-size beds and separate seating areas, and because they’re on separate floors, they offer plenty of privacy. The master bedroom’s French doors open onto the patio, while the loft opens onto a balcony. Enjoy a romantic nightcap under the stars before slipping beneath the covers and drifting to sleep. You can pack light when you stay at Rising Sun at the Plaza. Not only do we provide all the clean towels and bedding you’ll need (and the beds will be immaculately made up when you arrive, of course), but the home also has its own washer and dryer. How’s that for convenient? And speaking of convenient, the location is superb. The Santa Fe Plaza, the Palace of Governors, the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum, the New Mexico Museum of Art, Loretto Chapel, San Miguel Mission, and a trove of restaurants and shops are among the attractions within walking distance. And when you want to hike, ski, and take in the local flora and fauna, the Randall Davey Audubon Center, Dale Ball Trails, Atalaya Mountain, and Ski Santa Fe are all less than a half-hour away by car. Then again, once you see how luxuriant Rising Sun at the Plaza is, you may find yourself making excuses to spend the day in. And why not? It’s your vacation, so enjoy it however you want. First, though, you need to book your stay… before someone else beats you to it. Permit # 17-00143317

To the right is the dining area and kitchen with colorful tile work and modern appliances. Down the hall, you will find all three bedrooms equipped with king-size beds and TV. The master has its own spacious, private bathroom and features a nice gas fireplace with a great "sleep" feature to allow you to nod off with a fire burning before it shuts off automatically. Casita Don Miguel Casita Don Miguel is an oasis of quiet and charm within the South Capitol neighborhood of downtown Santa Fe. The 1-bedroom home is tucked away on a secluded residential lane and surrounded by adobe walls; as you linger over your morning coffee or evening cocktails in the lushly landscaped private courtyard, you might forget just how close you are to shops, restaurants, and historical sights. For instance, in just 15 minutes you can stroll to Santa Fe Railyard, a former transportation hub that’s now chock-full of galleries, markets, and eateries. Only a 20-minute walk away are San Miguel Mission, the country’s oldest church, and Loretto Chapel, with its must-see helix staircase. And in less than a half-hour you can walk to the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum and Santa Fe Plaza, the National Historic Landmark that’s home to more shops and galleries as well as the Palace of the Governors. If you want to hop in your car—and Casita Don Miguel has its own parking spaces, so you don’t have to worry about circling the block in search of a spot—you can be at Museum Hill and the galleries of Canyon Road in less than 10 minutes. Or drive a bit longer and hike Atalaya Mountain, climb Thompson Peak, or hit the slopes of Ski Santa Fe. A superb location isn’t the only reason to stay at Casita Don Miguel, however. A Pueblo Revival-style charmer, the adobe home is a cheery, bright retreat. Skylights and French doors let in plenty of sunlight; the white-painted viga ceiling beams, the tiled floor, and the wood-burning kiva fireplace add traditional Southwestern flair. With its well-cushioned leather sofa and roomy armchair, the living room invites you to kick back and watch TV, read, or chat over nibbles and drinks. That sofa, by the way, opens into a queen-size bed, so that Casita Don Miguel can sleep 4 people in all. Numerous restaurants are close by, but sometimes eating in is more relaxing (and easier on the wallet). Luckily several grocery stores and markets are nearby as well, and the casita has a kitchen fully equipped with appliances, gadgets, cookware, and tableware. You can savor your meal at the dining area’s table for 4 or outside in the courtyard, at the bistro table for 2. You can cook as well as dine alfresco, courtesy of the charcoal grill. The bedroom is furnished in the same relaxed Southwestern style as the rest of Casita Don Miguel. In addition to the spacious king-size bed, it includes a TV and a desk where you can set up your laptop and log on to the free WiFi. With an armoire and a closet, the bedroom offers plenty of storage. But feel free to pack light: The casita has its own washer and dryer within the bathroom, which includes a combination shower/tub. Whether your dream vacation entails exploring the mountains and desert, visiting galleries and museums, admiring Native American culture and centuries-old buildings, or simply soaking up the plentiful Santa Fe sunshine, you’ll find Casita Don Miguel the perfect retreat.
