The chalet is on a small private road and has plenty of parking. The main roads and the private road are always cleared of snow each day and driving in the area is safe. The ground floor is a 2 Bedroom apartment which is fully self contained and encompasses the entire floor of around 60m2. 2 large double bedrooms with plenty of wardrobe space, bathroom with bath and shower. Large fully fitted kitchen with utility room containing a washer and dryer, all cooking utensils are included as is a dishwasher, microwave, full oven and hob. Living room with dining area complete with wood burner, beamed vaulted ceiling and plenty of light thanks to large windows. Outside has a large decking area in front of the living area, large terrace across the front of the bedroom area, large patio area and garden all south facing with great views. The terraces and garden are yours to explore. Amazing views at any time of year. Snow capped mountains and forest all around. Many walking routes and cycle trails that are all well signposted and easy to explore. The area is renowned for cycling with the Tour De France passing through. Motorcyclists love the area and it is popular with bikers and classic car drivers in summer. We have 13 "switchbacks" on our road ! Doucy Combelouviere ski station is just a 2km drive away and roads are always clear. The chalet sits at 1100m and the ski station at 1250m. From Doucy you can take a chair lift up and change to a drag lift (new chair lift coming 2021) to the top of the Grand Domain ski area. Links then to Valmorel and St Francois Longchamp with 165km of pistes. For further skiing, the 3 Valleys ski area is accessible via gondola from Bride les Bains which is a 20 minute drive away. This gives a further 650km of pistes and the world famous Courchavel and Meribel. La Lechere is a short drive down the mountain and has a famous thermal spa. Local shopping in Aigublanche and larger shops in Moutiers and Albertville. There is a train station in Moutiers that links to Lyon and Geneva. We are happy to collect you from there but a car is recommended for your stay. The apartment includes all linen and towels.     A fabulous large, spacious gîte part troglo, part traditional house. The location is perfect for exploring the Loire Valley, right next to Amboise. There are three bedrooms in the traditional house, the one on the top floor is accessed by a very steep staircase. There are two bedrooms in the cave part of the house, both with windows facing the second courtyard. There is a spiral staircase that brings you to the second bedroom and a sleeping mezzanine. The large, fully equipped eat-in kitchen has a fantastic display of the wine press that was part of the former function of these caves. Indeed, there are presses and all sorts of relics of the life this magestic space had known in times long past. We have taken pains to preserve as much of the history of the space as possible - the owners before us had created a wine-makers museum within the space, there is a conversation pit with another wonderful old wine press. There are secret passeges connecting the various caves. You have three and a half bathrooms, a lot of additional spaces, the garden and parking right across the street are our property. We are just finishing the renovation here, so my photographs do not yet include all of the wonders of the spaces, but if you are looking for a truely unique experience in the heart of the Loire Valley for your winter vacation, you cannot do better than this.

The large dining table suitable for seating up to 6 diners is next to the window offering spectacular views of the river, the sunset, and the colorful Montgolfiers (hot air balloons) drifting by at dawn and sunset most days in season. Down the stone staircase is the Master Bedroom with an ensuite bathroom combining modern fixtures with stone walls. A King-size bed with a Tempurpedic mattress, reading lamps, desk, and a large private full-width balcony with loungers, barbeque and dining table for two make this room the ideal spot to relax with a glass of wine to admire the view. On this same level, there is a very small bedroom with bunk beds for children, which is especially convenient for parents who want their young children to sleep nearby but in a separate space from the master bedroom. One floor down, the old merchant's storeroom now is the second large bedroom, again with stone walls, an ancient beamed ceiling, and a river view. This room also has a king-size bed. An ensuite bathroom, and a full laundry room with a washer and dryer complete this floor. Because neither bedrooms are in the attic, and the thick stone walls offer a cooling insulator against the hot Dordogne summers, we sleep comfortably cool all summer long, many times with a duvet cover. Another floor down brings you to a flagstone terrace with a grape and wisteria arbor for a shaded sitting area and a few steps down, the stunning swimming pool area - with panoramic views and full access to the sun. Wonderful views of the river from both terraces and views of the Chateaux of Fayrac, Castelnaud, Lacosse, and Marqueyssac. Eat, drink and be merry. Mont Joie is truly a destination in itself. Nice is 1 hour and and 14 minutes by car. The local vineyards are superb with great quality wines. “We had a fantastic holiday in this spacious house with a magnificent swimming pool set in beautiful gardens in the hills above Les Arcs. The location is very peaceful and private. The swimming pool was the focus of our stay, the lack of chlorine was much appreciated and it has to be said that it was one of the best pools we have ever experienced. The pool is also toddler friendly because it has a gradual descent into the pool which gave our toddler the confidence to learn to swim. The house is tastefully decorated, clutter free, with modern furniture and mod cons. There is a functional kitchen with all the amenities we needed and an outdoor barbecue. The upstairs bedrooms have a shared balcony which gave us extra space and views of the surrounding area. As cyclists, we appreciated the use of the double garage for secure storage. We could descend down into les arcs for coffee and croissants at the excellent Le Tour cafe and return via traffic free roads through vineyards and leafy lanes. There is a local cycle path about 20 miles long, where the gradients were easy and gave panoramic views of the local vineyards. If you do this track, make sure you stop at the Station Rosalie (green caravan), west of Lorgues, serving the best bruschetta any of us had ever tasted. A trip to the Gorge De Verdon is spectacular and would make a great place to visit for either kayaking, cycling or walking. There is a big choice of local supermarkets, Boulangerie’s and a fruit and veg shop offering fantastic fruit and vegetables to die for, are within easy access by car or bike. The area seems to specialise in rose wine and the Chateau Saint Pierre is just south of Les Arcs selling great bottles for a good price. We had an incredible holiday and we can’t wait to go back! ”
