Smithers Accommodations

Smithers Travel Guide
Smithers, British Columbia, Canada is located in the Bulkley Valley of northwestern British Columbia, directly on the Trans Canada Yellowhead Highway (Route 16), approximately half way between the cities of Prince Rupert and Prince George, right in the heart of BC.From waterfalls to concert halls, visitors quickly find out what makes this place so special. Where else could you revel in the solitude of a rocky peak, dance to live music by Juno award-winning artists and experience the thrill of viewing black bears gorging berries on the roadside - and all these events on the same day?

Smithers, home to about 6000 people, is a regional service center for the entire Bulkley Valley and, therefore, offers many more amenities than you would normally see in a town of this size—including a great recreation centre, a fantastic ski hill, and an active regional airport. The town is set against the backdrop of Hudson Bay Mountain to the west and the Babine Mountain range to the east makes a very picturesque setting for your vacation rentals. It also makes for quick and easy access to the backcountry which makes it a great base for outdoor recreational pursuits during all phases of the year. Smithers is well-known for its fishing and hunting, downhill and cross-country skiing, golfing, snowmobiling, canoeing and kayaking among other things within close proximity of your vacation rental accommodations. Coupled with a range of indoor recreation opportunities and urban features — great restaurants, shops, music, spas, art gallery & museum — Smithers has something for everyone.

The spring and summer months lure the outdoor adventurer to the surrounding mountains to see nearby glaciers, hike or horseback ride in the alpine meadows. The fossil formations at Driftwood Canyon Provincial Park are a haven for the rock hound.

Area accommodations cater to those who are keen for fishing, wildlife watching, and canoeing or even photo safaris. Fall lures the hunters and fishers, while the majestic changing colours are a magnet for the avid photographer. Cross-country and downhill skiing plus snowmobiling are there for those who enjoy winter activities. Rent holiday lodgings directly from owners of chalet rentals, condo rentals, cabins, holiday homes, accommodations in Smithers, BC.

Smither also boasts a colourful history; once the divisional headquarters of the Grand Trunk Pacific Railway, the era can be relived at the Bulkley Valley Museum. The local wildlife museum and fish hatchery encourages a closer look at the regions natural inhabitants.

No matter what the season, Smithers vacation rentals offer a smorgasbord of activities guaranteed to whet the appetite of the explorer, thrill seeker or romantic.
