St James tours are very popular for people from all over the world because of the opportunities for duty free shopping along with a large selection of upscale resorts and restaurants. There are three malls in the area, the Chattel House Village, Sunset Creek, and the West Coast Mall. Luxury goods such as perfume and jewellery can be bought tax free provided you have a valid passport and a return ticket.

The largest city in St James Barbados is Holetown. Holetown was the first area to be settled in Barbados, around the year 1627. Another one of St. James towns attractions is the Holetown Festival which takes place the second weekend of February annually. The festival is a celebration of the town's unique African and English heritage. Visitors can look forward to live performances, historical demonstrations, and festive parades. St James tourism often peaks in February because of the week long event. It is free and is suitable for people of all ages. This makes for a very child friendly holiday and what better way to enjoy the Caribbean with the kids by staying in a villa or vacation rental.

The bedroom has a king-size or two twin beds, airconditioning, which is often not required, as the condominium complex is well situated in the path of the Tradewinds, which provide gentle breezes thoughout, so it's possible to leave the doors and windows open daily, as the condo has lockable wrought iron gates, front and back. The livingroom has convertible sofas which can also be used for sleeping two extra family members, as they make up into two single beds. The beach, being on the west coast is calm and tranquil, and safe for swimming, with a new man made submerged reef, which is now home to over 50 different species of fish, from tangs, parrots, puffers, black damsels, French angels, etc. So it also tames any errant waves,! Close by are Water sports and red jetski (66H) operator Mali provides discounted rates to our guests and can arrange the best rate for other hires. In Late April sometimes Whales visit the bay outside the condos and lucky visitors have the chance to spot them while out on the jetski. It's an easy few minute stroll to Surfside beach bar which has a steel band for happy hour on a Sunday, or the shopping centre, from which buses run every few minutes into the city centre or to places of interest. All beaches are public. There are banks, car hire, taxis, and local inexpensive buses into Bridgetown, and 'tourist attractions' which are used by both visitors and local alike. Holetown is 28 km from the airport, and is home to many fashionable restaurants, and the upscale new Lime Grove mall. Bars, Dining and shopping are within easy walking distance, and many watersports are available on the beach at your doorstep. There are 2 nightclub, plus a new dine-in cinema. Close by for evening entertainment. There is also the well known 1st St, street party on Sunday nights with karaoke twice a month . Swimming with the endangered turtles is a very popular activity and many people choose to take a "cat" trip out for the day to do this. Visitors also like scuba diving and snorkelling at Folkestone, the marine park, a 10 minute walk away, or for those who prefer less far to walk, the outer edge of the new manmade reef of protective Nova Scotia granite, outside the condos is amazing with its large diversity of fish and now starting to grow coral too. There're also sea trips on the Jolly Roger, Atlantis submarine, and glass bottom boats. Other activities are horseback riding on the beach, fishing - deep sea, or off the beach. The first settlers arrived in1627, and the island still retains its British Parliamentary system. It has a reliable infrastructure, and offers the comforts and safety of most Western countries. Since the island is roughly triangular in shape, the 3 coasts offer a totally different ambience. The east coast bordered by the Atlantic ocean, is wild, rugged, beautiful, isolated, and unsuitable for swimming in most areas, and does host an international surfing competition in November.     Located in Sunset Crest/Holetown (west coast of Barbados), the rental property is a cozy, comfortable, clean unit and is a 5 minute walk from the the public beach (see photo) and one block from the main beach road - Hwy 1 (with regular bus service to and from Bridgetown). The west coast has the calmest swimming waters in Barbados and is the only coast in Barbados where you don't have to worry about seaweeds on the beach. Sunset Crest is in the southern end of the town of Holetown, the 2nd largest town in Barbados (after Bridgetown) and provides all of the advantages that being "in" town has to offer. The condo has one bedroom with a queen size bed and air-conditioning (bedroom only). There is in-house high speed internet/WiFi. The kitchen is fully equipped with utensils/dishes, fridge, stove, microwave, coffee maker, toaster, etc. The sitting\dining room has a very comfortable couch (that converts into a small additional twin-double bed), two separate lounging arm chairs, a ceiling fan, cable TV , DVD player and a CD-AM\FM radio unit. In addition, we have also added a washing machine at the condo (see picture #7) that is a feature rarely found in similar accommodations in the whole Sunset Crest/Holetown area. There are also a variety of books and games in the unit for your additional entertainment. There's a small breakfast\dining table with four chairs next to the kitchen. The en-suite washroom has a stand-up shower. The front enclosed patio has a table and chairs for lounging as well as a BBQ grill (charcoal) that can be rolled out to the front lawn when in use. There is also a private parking spot in front of the condo (for a rental car, guest parking, etc.). The condo is immediately next door to Sunset Mall that has a local bank, a large duty free store (Cave Sheppard), as well as other smaller shops. There is also a mini-mall across the street that has a convenience store and two different coffee shops (that offer free WiFi to customers) . Also, immediately across the street from the condo, there is a local food van that sells lunch from Monday to Friday during the week with local Barbados (Bajan) food such as chicken, pork, fish, etc., and has very reasonable prices that is a nice alternative from the more expensive restaurants in the area. A pay-as-you go local cell phone is made available for use by guests (use of phone is free, you are only responsible to keep your pay-as-you-go sim card topped up!) that will enable guests to make local and oversea calls (without incurring local roaming charges) and also to receive calls from family and friends from abroad and locally. Guests also get the use of an electronic access card for complimentary access at the local Beach Club swimming pool (7 min walk from condo - see photo) that has been recently renovated. There is also free WiFi at the Beach Club (password provided to guests once a booking is made). The center of Holetown is a 10 minute walk north from the condo with local services available like a large (brand new) supermarket, restaurants, clubs, a top notch health clinic and the high end Limegrove Shopping Centre with great upscale shops (Louis Vutton, etc.), a new cinema, restaurants, etc. The condo's location immediately near the beach, shopping, restaurants, 24 hr. Medical clinic and Holetown ensure that guests do not have to rent a car while in Barbados if they do not want to do so since everything is essentially within a 10-15 minute walk from the condo.

St. James, Barbados Annual Events

Holetown Festival (February) - The Festival commemorates the landing of the first settlers to Barbados at Holetown, St. James in February 1627. Entertainment includes a variety of music, such as Gospel, Classical, Tuk Band and Calypso, as well as Folk Dancing, presented in free open-air concerts. There is also an Arts and Craft Exhibition, a display called "Beating the Retreat", by the Barbados Defence Force and a Flood Lit Tattoo which is put on by the Police and a parade of Vintage Motor Vehicles. On the Saturday, there is a Street Fair, where Vendors&lsquo Stalls offer a wide cross section of Barbadian Arts and Crafts, as well as local foods and beverages. 

Crop Over Festival (May through August) - The highlight of the Annual Cultural Calendar is the Crop Over Festival. This Festival originated on the sugar plantation as a means of celebrating the end of the sugar cane harvest season. The Crop Over Festival was revived in 1974 after a period of depression and involves community participation in fairs, concerts, cart parades and other cultural activities with an integral component being the Calypso Monarch.

Barbados Polo (December through April): Polo matches and tournaments are played on weekends, mostly Sundays or sometimes during the week. With four world class Polo venues, Field Polo in Barbados have fantastic settings complimented with friendships and camaraderie of visiting regional & international teams such as England, Jamaica, Ireland, Italy and more. Be part of a unique polo experience in a fun atmosphere.
