We rented this lake house with friends and family in the first week of August 2017 and although the property is ok, the landlord is not someone you ever want to deal with.

We've rented various properties in the Shuswap for years and never come across problems even close to the issues we had during the week. The biggest issue was by far the dock as there was a storm a full week before our arrival that simply broke the chain between the dock and the anchor. The landlord was staying at the cabin the week before our arrival and she did nothing to attempt to fix the dock and assumed we would just go the week without a dock. When we arrived with our boat, the dock was washed up on shore and we were left to figure out how the heck to load and unload people and equipment on the rocky shore without damage to the boat or injury. Not only did she expect us to go without a dock for the full week but she didn’t even give us a curtesy call. We talked to the neighbors and they let us know that there was a storm a week ago. We’re pretty reasonable people and if the dock was only wrecked a couple of days ago and calls were made to repair guys to at least attempt to fix it I probably wouldn’t be writing this review. But after calling and emailing the landlord, she finally replied to us late the next day and said she would look into the dock. Two days later, a repair guy came up to our cabin and asked if we had a dock that needed repaired. He had been given no info and subsequently found out he would need a diver to fix the dock which could have been avoided if she had told him the chain was simply broken which we told her and she should have known since she was there. We showed the repair guy what needed to be fixed and helped him with the dock and never once did the landlord call or show up to assist in the process.

So half our week gone, we finally got a dock and went on with our trip. Our group subsequently decided that we should ask for a few hundred dollars as compensation for our loss of the dock.

The owner replied by saying that the dock was not part of the rental (literally stating in the email that we “only rented the house and contents”) and that she didn’t know we had a boat so thought we could simply go without even though the ad title literally starts off with “Shuswap Lake Boating” and the dock is specified as an amenity directly in the ad. She also went on to make up irrelevant arguments that we apparently used an extra garbage bag when we cleaned up and were supposed to be limited to the one bag in each can and that the breaker was blown on the outside plugs which we didn’t even use. And even if we used an extra garbage bag to make sure we adequately cleaned up and blew the breaker, simply flip it back on and be happy we did a good job cleaning up. This seems petty but my point is that if you have an actual issue with the property she will find every reason to keep your damage deposit. Due to this, we also asked for proof of the damage deposit cheque being destroyed since the place was immaculate when we left and she has ignored both our emails and our calls.

Needless to say she has now ignored our repeated request for a couple hundred bucks for our loss of the dock and has not given us proof of damage deposit cheque being ripped up nor has she even told us it was destroyed. There are hundreds of other amazing properties with excellent landlords in the Shuswap to rent. Don’t sell yourself short by renting this property!!!

As most know, the summer of 2017 in the Okanagan was the worst flooding in recorded history. The flooding and the STORMS CREATED ENORMOUS DAMAGE TO DOCKS, BEACHES, ETC. UNFORTUNATELY OUR PROPERTY WAS ONE OF THOSE AFFECTED BY THE UNUSUAL WEATHER AND STORMS. WE DID OUR VERY BEST TO ACCOMMODATE THIS GUEST TO THE BEST OF OUR ABILITY.
ALONG WITH GETTING THE DOCK FIXED AS SOON AS POSSIBLE, THERE WAS A PARTIAL REFUND TO THE GUEST AS A FORM OF APOLOGY FOR THE INCONVENIENCE.
I believe the OTHER REVIEWS showing for our property REFLECT THE POSITIVE EXPERIENCES HAD BY OTHERS.

My family and I stayed at this beautiful home overlooking Shuswap Lake at the start of June. Upon arrival, we were in awe of the waterfront location that is this property. We quickly settled in to begin enjoying all that it had to offer. The home was warm and inviting, and it was not long before we felt like we were truly at home. Every morning was spent watching the sunrise with coffee on the gorgeous wrap around balcony, enjoying the array of wildlife that frequents the area. There is nothing more peaceful than to be lakefront, watching a bald eagle soar the skies. As the property is waterfront, we enjoyed the hot summer days on the lake on the little floating dock accessible by stairs. It is a very secluded area! There is also a fire pit in the backyard where all of us shared many laughs and great memories and made for a really memorable gathering spot. Blind Bay grocery store was less than a 15 minute drive away for any last minute items that may have been forgotten (very handy) and when you didn't feel like cooking, Finz Bar and Grill was a short drive away as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here, and would not hesitate to go back in a heartbeat!!! Thank you for sharing your home with us.

We rented the house for 1 week with friends in July. The house was well stocked with essentials and had plenty of room for two families of four to stay. Great view of the lake, dock and boat buoy. Our kids enjoyed the ping pong table outside on the lower level as well as the great selection of movies available to wind down after a day on the water. Neighbours were very friendly and helpful.
Just a note that the driveway is quite steep, the picture doesn't show the incline well. Over all the house was clean, but a bit more attention to the spiderwebs and cobwebs would have been nice. There was also exposed electrical in the kitchen right under the cabinets as well as no range hood.
