Additionally, the park boasts a list of over 150 species of free-flying birds and is the best place in the world to view roadrunners. The park has records of over 30 species of free crawling reptiles including chuckwallas, zebra-tailed lizards, and desert iguanas. The more than 20 species of free-roaming mammals are mostly out of sight during the day, but tracks of coyote, bobcat, gray fox, and black-tailed jackrabbit can be seen on some of the dusty trails. Our botanical gardens attract over 30 species of butterflies and our ponds attract over 20 species of dragonflies, including queen butterflies, large orange sulphurs, roseate skimmers, and Mexican amberwings.
