Beautiful home in an outstanding location!
We had a fabulous 8 night stay at Seaclusion. After much research of rentals, we chose this home based on its location on the water and within walking distance of town. Having rented many villas throughout the Caribbean and as fellow vacation home owners, we were very impressed with how well stocked the home was from kitchen utensils, cookware, appliances to cleaning supplies. The outdoor patio is the place to be with outstanding views of the waves crashing into the lava rocks and beautiful sunrises. We were lucky enough to see dolphins too right off shore too. While some previous renters complained about the lack of air conditioning in main part of house, we enjoyed our time outside and found the air in the master to be more than sufficient. We were just a couple, so we had no need for the downstairs bedroom, but would recommend it for teen age aged kids, rather than a second couple or small children.
The only thing we would change would be having a King size bed in the master, but again, it did not detract from an amazing stay.
Thank you to the owners who opened their beautiful home to us!
Ocean front retreat with superb sunsets.
The house was just what we hoped for, welcoming, comfortable, spacious, and close to the village of Kona. The house was very clean upon arrival with a well equipped kitchen for all our cooking needs, the pool was a nice break to relax and cool off in, and the upper deck was wonderful for stretching out and getting some relaxation and quite time on while looking out over the ocean.
We did have two issues during our time there. The septic grinder pump broke down and we did not have use of the showers, toilets or any of the sinks for a full day. Fortunately, we were finally able to contact the right person, Bruce, who made contact with the Owner who quickly found a plumber who changed out the pump and got the system up and running just before dinner preparation were necessary to begin. Additionally, a local and close bridge replacement and paving project made access to the house during our stay challenging and difficult at times. Although not really a problem of the house, it did make getting to and from the house a time consideration. Noise from the construction was loud during the day but did not extend past 4:00PM allowing the ocean waters breaking on the shores lave rocks to provide a wonderful back drop to the evenings relaxation.
I would very much like to come back again and stay at this fantastic house and plan to when we next come to the Kona. We would highly recommend this house to anyone wanting to have a great waterfront experience in a lovely house.

Fantastic location, exquisite property
Spent three nights here in October 2013, and loved every minute of it. Beautiful home with very interesting architectural features, fantastic location with panoramic views of the water. Wayne was extremely professional and easy to work with. The master bed room was an absolute pleasure to sleep in, the jacuzzi was awesome. The guest bedroom - which is downstairs and has its own entrance - has two twins, and is extremely comfortable; again with panoramic views of the water (as noted by others, the separate entrance would make this less than ideal if you were traveling with a child). Close to Kona but away from the din. The downside? We spent a LOT of time at home! Totally zen.

We stayed the third week of august. The house did not disappoint. Coffee on the lanai every morning is something you will look forward to. The view is absolutely spectacular. Spinner dolphins appeared daily. The two bedrooms are air-conditioned, the living room is not. Keeping the front and back screen doors open until bedtime allowed for a decent cross breeze. My Ten year old daughter stayed in the downstairs bedroom which has a separate entrance. I was at first concerned she would not be ok with that , or myself for that matter . I was pleasantly surprised that she loved it. She preferred to go back and forth from the backdoors of the house instead of the front. Instead of eating out frequently we stocked up at the local l Safeway and cooked/grilled for ourselves. Saved a ton of money and with that view who needs to go to a restaurant. The house could use a new grill, which is why I give the amenities four stars instead of five. It was functional , but grilling is a favorite of mine and in my opinion its time for a replacement. Management was great, personable and responded quickly to
any questions . The location is great ! We were very happy with the house and amenities. Great location, walking distance to town. House is set back off Alii Drive, very private. Amazing views and sunsets. Pool was perfect for a dip. The kitchen / living area has an open, spacious design. The master bedroom was a good size and had a nice layout. Beautiful views right from bed! Second bedroom is small and has a separate entrance. It is not part of the main house. Would not advise this rental if you had younger children.

When we arrived the house was clean with a few minor exceptions. The large window / ledge area above the kitchen sink had not been wiped down. There were one too many dead bugs to have to see. When we went to use the dishwasher, it was completely full, so we had to re-run it. Also, previous reviews mentioned torn screens. This is still the case. We came across quite a few that are still in need of repair, especially the front entrance way screen.

Overall a really nice rental.
Location, Location, Location
The location alone earns 5 stars, and keeps those 5 stars. The house is on the rocks overlooking the ocean with a beautiful palm tree to the left and a large banyan next door to the right. Waves crash on the rocks and lull you into a tropical mood almost immediately. We saw 1 whale and dozens of spinner dolphins would come by every few days. The deck is the place to be.
The house itself is very functional with a few caveats. It is a stretch to say "like new." It would be awkward for 2 couples as the downstairs is nothing compared to the upstairs (put the kids downstairs). Not enough basic supplies like toilet paper, hand soap, etc. provided. We had to purchase more 1/2 way thru our stay. Kitchen is well appointed but needs sharp knives and a kettle or teapot. The pool is big enough for 3 to relax on floats but was not ready when we arrived and we had to turn off the water the next day once full. Trash was not removed before or during our stay. Overall, communication is not great. For example, other homestays have resource notebooks indicating if you need to take trash out and what day, how the hot water works (solar, be aware of showers in the morning), where local stores are and some recommendations.
Putting these things aside, the view and location more than compensated for us. We spent hours on the deck with the wall of windows wide open to let the winds blow thru. We cooked many meals and dined to the sound of the ocean and birds. You can walk to Kailua in 10-15 minutes for shopping/dining/drinks. There are a few swimming beaches within 15 minutes’ walk as well. We would recommend a car as groceries are more limited close by and you will want to explore.
We will likely stay here again in the future as the view/location are outstanding.
Showing it's age
The location is amazing. The house is spacious and furnished nicely. There were too many little nagging issues for the property to be considered awesome. It's apparent the owners are very conscientious about spending on maintenance. The screens are unable to stop the bugs because they are either torn, don't close properly, or rusting off their tracks. I've rented homes through VRBO many times and every property has issues. When the issues infringe on my limited vacation days I feel compelled to write about it. On day 5 of our stay the elements on the range refused to turn off. I found the breaker panel and forced the stove to turn off. I called the manager and he had a repair guy at the house 4 days later. The wiring harness was charred and brittle. Not only inoperative but dangerous. The repair guy cobbled it together and got it working on our last day there. The food I had planned on cooking went bad and we spent more time in local restaurants than we wanted to. Gourmet kitchens are only good if you can use them. Had the manager offered us an electric element from Wal Mart this review would be very different. If the owners were to replace the broken air conditioner on the main floor, and get a new stove I'd rent this place again. The house deserves to be air conditioned properly. Like all VRBO houses, the description is deceptive and misleading. The "pool" is actually a giant plunge style pool. No filtration or skimmer just a watering hole next to the ocean. Pretty certain the pool is frequently drained into the ocean and refilled. The ocean area directly in front of the pool looks bleached out. It's a great house with an incredible view just don't expect the moon. Not willing to recommend it as is, but with proper maintenance this place could be fantastic.
Disclaimer: The property manager gave us a nights credit after I badgered him about the broken stove.
Response from Kona Sunsets Vacation Rentals; Wednesday, August 30, 2017
Upon inspection a small tear was noted on the front door screen. The sliding screen doors on the lanai worked fine and are not rusting off the tracks. I received a call Friday evening on the range and was not able to get a repairman there until Monday morning.
The wiring had come loose and was reattached. There was no charring or danger to the guest. (confirmed by the repairman that fixed it) During this period the oven was working, the microwave was working and the BBQ on the lanai all were usable.
The fridge was working so do not know how the food went bad? The A/C unit in the kitchen area has been disconnected for some time and not advertised as usable or even mentioned on the web sites. There is A/C in both the bedrooms.
This house sits right on the ocean with lovely breezes day and night. A/C in the living room has not been an issue with other guests over the past 2 years. The pool is treated with chemicals on a weekly basis and is drained and refilled for each new guest.
There is nothing deceptive or misleading in the description. We make every effort to maintain this property in the best condition possible. It is oceanfront and requires more attention. The screens are being addressed. The stove top is fixed.
I am sorry this guest was not able to enjoy this very special home as the guests before him have with all 5 star ratings. Respectfully, Management

The only thing I will mention is this really is a place for one couple...two bedrooms ...spoiled by the master suite...but the second bedroom has a separate entrance from the main house and does not compare to the master. The setting on the ocean is amazing...pool sparkled and refreshing....although this is right on the water please note there is no access to the ocean for swimming or snorkeling due to the waves crashing on the lava rocks.
