Built in the late 1600s and was intended to be the Master's residence. As it often happens in Italy, death & inheritance divided the "palazzina" into two separate residences. The property occupies the top two floors, while below there is an artist's studio & gallery belonging to another property owner. From the front door there is a passageway leading up to the Courtyard, the heart of IL POGGIOLO, with a drying shed & oven and a grassy ramp leading up to the 2,000 square meters of terraced garden. There is even a fish pond. From the garden there are views of the Aulella River valley, the hills covered with olive & chestnut groves and the historic Church of Codiponte and its campanile. The Romanesque church was a once-upon-a-time way-station along the famous pilgrimage route, the via Francigena, connecting France to Rome. The village of Codiponte is situated in the part of the Lunigiana, practically at the feet of the Apuane Mountains, peaks revered by ancient peoples of the area and by the Romans. The area is still one of small stone borghi... Or, villages, many with their own castles, surrounded by unspoiled mountain country-side. Yet, Codiponte is only a 40 minute car drive to the Mediterranean Sea and the Italian Riviera, such as Le Cinque Terre. Parma, Pisa and its airport, Lucca & Genoa are an easy drive too. Come & enjoy!
