Great Ocean View
We enjoyed our time at Maui Sunset. Our unit was a bit outdated and didn't have a lot of kitchen utensils we'd normally like but we weren't in the place very often as we were out enjoying the sun!

Two week vacation stay

Maui escape
Maui Sunset resort is great. Pool hot tub and location by pickle ball courts with beautiful park and beach. Condo was a little dated. Air condition in living room very noisy. If you plan on cooking need to bring or purchase everything down to salt and pepper. Great view of pool and ocean. Really enjoyed Wednesday concerts<br/>

WITH A VIEW
We love the location of Maui Sunset. This time however there were a few issues. 1 the hot tub didn't work for a few days. 2. There was 1 elevator working and we were on the 5th floor with a baby, so this was a hassle. 3. Finally the dishwasher was broke. This should have been communicated with prior as they did know. When you pay 9k for 2 weeks all the above start to matter. A refund for the issues would have been nice to see for a bit.

Maui Sunset Vacation
We stayed at the property in August 2019 and had a large family group and two of the condo units. We were all very impressed and happy with the condo from the first time we opened the door. The furniture and all the needed supplies in the bath and kitchen were great and the beach time items in the closet were a great extra. The location is perfect for exploring the island since it is somewhat centrally located. The beach was very nice and the sunsets were awesome to enjoy. We will definitely stay at Maui Sunset again if we return to the island.

Vacation in Paradise
Our unit gave us a beautiful broad view of the ocean. The grounds were maintained to near perfection and our room had all of the necessities for cooking when we wished.

Winter vacation
Thought the grounds, pool, location and overall building were great. Only negative was our specific unit. The blender was broken and the dishwasher was not connected to the counter top (it would tip over as we loaded it). Dishwasher soap dispenser also did not work. The finishes in the unit are very dated. Could use a cosmetic renovation!

Our Stay Was Amazing!

Beautiful view but bed bugs found
On the second day, a bed bug was found on the rollaway bed in the living room. The staff was notified, came to observe and offered to vacuum the area. We requested a new room and was told that there wasn't one. We even showed them the bed bug live and took a picture. The staff insisted it wasn't a bed bugs even though we referenced the photo to an actual bug. Needless to say, a new room should have been offered.

Aloha, I was glad to be able to speak to you while you were in Maui. I appreciate you sending the photo of the bug and allowing our staff to inspect the mattress and the area. The bug was for sure, absolutely not a bed bug. Bedbugs are very small and there are usually many of them, typically you don't discover until they have already bitten. It was a that can happen in Maui as its a tropical island. We use a company called Ecolab for our pest control system, they use non-toxic agents to make sure anything coming in doesn't hang around.
The bedding was replaced immediately and they did check the rest of the beds in the condo to be sure. the area was vacuumed and inspected
I was glad to see we were able to upgrade you to one of our premium condos, your comments at the time were that it was a gorgeous condo and location with a great view. However, you were very upset with finding a bug on the twin bed in the living room.
I do hope you reconsider and try the Maui Sunset again for a future trip.

Maui Sunset - Oct 4th - Oct 16th 2017
All in all, we had an enjoyable experience at the Maui Sunset. The rooms were fantastic! Clean accommodations, with friendly maintenance staff and meticulous cleaning of facilities. Gorgeous setting, with a fairly good beach... rocky bottom, so bring your water shoes. Great location in Kihei, only minutes away from Wailea, and Lahaina. Only a couple disappointments that didn't yield a 5 out of 5 for our overall experience. With a Family including kids under 10, the pool was very restrictive for noise, pool toys, and in general 'fun'. Feels like Maui Sunset has extended the resort to Family use over time, but is majority 'Senior owned' community. A bit frustrating to be sold a Family environment, but main amenity for the kids - the pool, is so limiting.... where pool toys, and games like Marco Polo are a no-no. We were spoken to by the 'activity coordinator' at the pool whom we labeled the fun police / pool nazi by the end of our trip, because our 5yr old was using his 'outside voice' playing with his 2yr old sister. Same with other families that our kids were playing with. Had a couple of Senior owners be passive aggressive to us in regards to the kids at poolside also. I would highly recommend this be communicated to families before they spend the money, because this could be a deal breaker for some families. Other issue were the room upgrades that were being completed next to our rooms, no advance notice. For three days there was loud construction activity happening from 8am - 5pm. So kids couldn't nap in the afternoon. Would have been nice to know in advance to manage our daily schedule differently. Again, outside of these two items that were more of a nuisance, Maui Sunset is a nice high quality resort, at a great location, at a very competitive and manageable cost! Most likely would consider it again when we come back!

Aloha Vince and family, Thank you so much for choosing the Maui Sunset for your family trip. It is a family resort and the pool is very popular for all, including folks without kiddos. There are some pool rules, mostly for safety. Running, throwing toys, jumping etc. Marco Polo is not allowed in most resort pools for the excessive noise. Kids should be able to have fun and enjoy the pool. The activity desk is there for safety and to remind about the rules so that all can enjoy the deck for relaxing and swimming. I did see a private condo next door to your 2 bedroom was undergoing renovation, they did not notify anyone until it started, which would have been nice.

Great relaxing condo, clean, great location, parking was a bit tight, loved having BBQs in the court yard, double check your towels and supplies at the start of week, also they accept perishable and non food items at the end of the week to donate. quiet time was a bit early, a place to have drinks in the later eve would have been nice (beach area away from balcony of shhhhhushers.

Family Vacation 2018
We had our family vacation including myself my husband 2 of my sons my daughter in law granddaughter & my son’s fiancé. She is now my new daughter in law. We have had a wonderful experience. What a relaxing place. Yet minutes away there are places to eat shop or snorkel.

Perfect for large family reunion!
Maui Sunset is a very nice complex! Great pool/hot tub, BBQ grills and even an herb garden on the grounds for fresh basil, cilantro etc. We cooked almost every night and kitchen was well equipped! There were 14 of us in 3 different condos....ages 5 up...3 generations..lots of activities and a beach with turtles right there!Longs Drugstore and Times grocery store within easy walking distance.

Great place to visit on Maui!
We have stayed at Maui Sunset (via American Resort Marketing) many times starting in 2001. The AMR properties have been clean and well-maintained, as opposed to some others we have seen or heard in the Maui Sunset complex. Kihei is a great spot for getting around to various activities on the Island. The activity desk had two knowledgeable people, Connie and Autumn, who book trips and can help with restaurants. While the Maui Sunset isn't the upscale nature of the Wailea hotels, neither are the rental prices. As opposed to hotels, you have nicely decorated rooms, a full kitchen plus there are gas grills centrally located where many people congregate and converse during the course of their stays. Our 2 BR Ocean View room had a magnificent view of the ocean. The pool is especially nice for families as you can better keep track of kids. The lawn is beautifully manicured like putting greens. While the beach is not a swim beach, all the beaches in Hawaii are open, so it is an easy drive of 10-15 minutes to get to the great Maui beaches by the hotels without paying the hotel prices. The MS beach is wonderful in the afternoon for watching kite surfers, wind surfers and there always is a crowd sitting on the lawn watching the sunset.
