Balboa Island is Great, House Not So Much Contrary to the photos, this property was filthy and in a state of disrepair. Several housekeeping and maintenance issues upon arrival included: dirty and worn carpeting, loud and rattling outside HVAC unit, hole in dryer exhaust vent, broken water/ice maker in refrigerator, layers of dust everywhere, hair left in shower drains, broken hand-held shower apparatus, garage access panel never worked, disorganized and dirty kitchen drawers (crumbs, stains, dead bugs in cabinets), dirty dresser drawers, switch plates covered in grime and fingerprints, front door that sticks, burned out lightbulbs, etc.. The list goes on and on. No one answered the property management emergency telephone number the day after arrival (Sunday). The company fixed the dryer exhaust (a safety hazard) two days after arrival. The company also offered to address some of the issues during our stay, but we declined due to Covid concerns and the basic expectation that a rental home should be clean and ready upon arrival. The property location was terrific and a short walk to town. Unfortunately, the dilapidated home cast a pall over our stay. We departed early. Worked well for our family We've been renting vacation homes on Balboa Island as a family for over 70 years. This was our first time renting at 217 Diamond Ave. The home worked well for our family and has a number of nice features. We especially enjoyed having 3 1/2 baths, large bedrooms, an enclosed outdoor patio/eating area, a garage large enough for our Suburban and bikes, good WiFi and a large, well-stocked kitchen. There are a few maintenance items that need attention, which we have mentioned to the rental agency. Those items and the response from the rental agency to one of them during our stay are the reasons why we are not giving a 5 star rating. Hopefully, they will be corrected soon. We enjoyed ourselves enough that we have already made our reservation to return next summer. A large spacious living room with fireplace and flat screen tv accompany the front great room. The kitchen has been remodeled with additions like granite countertops and new stainless-steel appliances. The kitchen contains an extra eating area with another flat screen tv. Powder room is right off the 2-car garage with washer/dryer and extra refrigerator located inside the garage. The property has a large front patio and indoor courtyard that opens to the living room. The perfect indoor/outdoor space for anyone wanting to vacation on the island. 1st bedroom has a queen bed, large vaulted ceilings, fireplace, and small balcony. 2nd bedroom has 2 single beds laying the perfect groundwork for the kids area. 3rd bedroom is the master with connected en-suite bathroom containing a king-sized bed for guest use.

Walk around the bayfront and stroll along historic Marine Street with some of the best restaurants in the city. Indulge in one of Balboa Island's famous frozen bananas or an ice cream-based Balboa Bar. The Balboa Island Auto ferry is close and takes patrons across the Bay to visit the Balboa Village on the Peninsula and take in the views of the Balboa Pier. Many available activities include bike rides, stand-up paddle boarding, jet skis, or kayaks all for rent nearby.

Whale watching or deep-sea fishing is easily accessible from the many boats that leave the Balboa Pavilion daily. Catch the Catalina Flyer to make a day trip to beautiful Catalina Island. On the peninsula you can relax along the pristine beaches, go surfing, check out the FUN ZONE, and grab a bite to eat at one of the many fine restaurants. SLP12539
