Sorrento, Italy General Info
Sorrento, situated in a strategic way between the Gulf of Naples on the north and the one of Salerno on the south, it's one of the most famous tourist attractions of Campania. The city, from which the area from Vico Equense to Massa Lubrense takes the name, is on a tuff side 50 metres high on the sea. It's inhabited by 17.500 people and it has an extension of 9,9 squared km.
Events in Sorrento
Sagra della Salsiccia e Ceppone (December): Sausage lovers can salivate at this annual festival, held on December 13, when hundreds of kilos of sausages are barbecued over a giant bonfire, accompanied by hearty local wine.
Sorrento Festival (between July and September): World-class classical concerts are held in the cloisters of the Chiesa di San Francesco.
Sant'Antonino (February 14): The city's patron saint, Sant'Antonino, is remembered annually with processions and huge markets. The saint is credited with having saved Sorrento during WWII when Salerno and Naples were heavily bombed.
Marameo Beach is the ideal place for who want to have days for relax, beach, sea. In the ticket fare is included a sun bed, a towel and entertainment.
Leonelli' s Beach is an historical bathing establishment that has been managed by Leonelli's family for three generations. It is located in Sorrento in the center of a wonderful natural bay from which it is possible to admire the magnificent view.
As is true of Sorrento, the town of Vico Equense calls the Sorrentine Peninsula home. A popular resort in its own right, the town offers a number of beaches. Many of these beaches are small and can be found in scenic coves. Among the most renowned is the beach at Marina di Equa. It boasts bathing facilities and is overlooked by a Gothic cathedral.
Not far from Sorrento is a wonderful beach that is backed by dramatic cliffs. The beach's name is Punta del Capo Beach, and only adding to the allure are the nearby Roman ruins. Also found near sandy Punta del Capo Beach is a great swimming hole that is known as the Bath of Queen Giovanna. Sunbathing, swimming, and snorkeling are among the top activities at Punta del Capo Beach.
