The Central Okanagan is a region located in British Columbia, Canada. The main attraction of this region are the pristine waters of Okanagan Lake and the stunning views surrounding it. With the range of mountains bordering this magnificent region, it is a favorite destination for outdoor enthusiasts and adventure seekers especially in the summer and winter.

Summer is a great time for biking, mountain biking, hiking, camping and other outdoor sports. With its breathtaking scenery, the region is ideal for these kinds of activities. It provides perfect trails for bikers and hikers. The Kettle Valley Trail, the former Kettle Valley Railway that was turned into a path for hikers, allows you to see spectacular views of Kelowna. One of the most notable sections of this trail is the Myra Canyon. With 18 trestle bridges and two tunnels, this part of the trail is best for bikers but portions of it can also be explored on foot while admiring the beauty around you. Being one of the historical sites in Canada, Myra Canyon attracts many tourists yearly.

Your summer experience will not be completed without taking a plunge into the water. Being the warmest and driest part of the British Columbia, the Okanagan features gorgeous beaches for travelers to explore. Gyro Beach, located in Kelowna, the largest city in Okanagan, is one of the most well-known beaches. This is a favorite summer destination for families and beach lovers. There are loads of activities you can enjoy while hanging out at the beach such as boating, fishing and scuba diving. You can also spend some hours cruising a stretch of Lake Okanagan and have some sailing adventures with your family.

In the winter, the Okanagan is the perfect haven for skiers and snowboarders. Ski resorts in this area boast challenging terrains for enthusiasts. Big White Resort, Canadas largest ski village, is one of the most famous ski resorts in the area. Just an hour drive away from the Kelowna International Airport, it is more accessible and therefore preferred by tourists and visitors. There are other ski villages you can choose from like the Silver Star Mountain Resort, Apex Mountain Ski Resort and Crystal Mountain Ski Resort.

For more adventurous activities, go to Peachland where you can find Canadas highest zip line. Overlooking the Deep Creek Gorge, the 380ft high and 6750 ft long line takes you to a thrilling experience while adoring the majestic canyon walls below. Zipzone Adventure Park provides this unforgettable time.

For some historical exploration, try stopping by at the Laurel Packinghouse. It is the oldest and largest existing packinghouse in British Columbia. It was preserved to provide a home to the BC Wine Museum and VQA Wine Shop and to pay homage to Canadas agricultural heritage. It also features the BC Orchard Industry Museum that tells Canadas history of orcharding. The Okanagan Heritage Museum and Okanagan Military Museum are other museums you might want to take in. Located in the Kelowna Cultural District, these museums showcase Canadian historical and art pieces. Continue your historical stroll with a soothing and peaceful walk in Kasugai Gardens which is just behind the museums. This Japanese-inspired garden commemorates the relationship between the cities of Kelowna and Kasugai in Japan.

Visiting wineries and vineyards is another highlight you dont want to miss while you are in this area. Cedar Creek Estate Winery, the Summerhill Pyramid Winery and Tantalus Vineyard are among the numerous notable wineries a wine connoisseur might want to add to the list of the places to explore. And take note of the Okanagan Wine Festivals to double the fun. There are also farms and orchards you might luckily stumble upon while taking a walk, like the Okanagan Lavender and Herb Farm. Enjoy a breath of fragrant fresh air while marveling at the sea of purple with Okanagan Lake as the backdrop!
