Davenport is situated quite literally smack-dab in the middle of Florida. Which can only mean one thing: Its right next door to Orlando and Walt Disney World, MGM Studios, the World of Harry Potter, Lego Imagination Center, Epcot, SeaWorld, Cirque du Soleil, Kennedy Space Centre. While Orlando might be the worlds greatest playground, Davenport is definitely one of the best places to stay to experience it. With just 2,000 residents, Davenport is the definition of small-town America. Quaint. Charming. Safe. And yet, it has all of the amenities you expect whether youre traveling for business or pleasure. Restaurants, recreation, and shopping are all close at hand. And its location near the Orlando airport, Kissimmee Amtrak station, and Interstate 4 mean that getting to and from Davenport is a breeze whether youre traveling by plane, train, or automobile. Bok Tower Gardens, a National Historic Landmark, is another must-visit Davenport destination. Its a garden, bird and wildlife sanctuary (with more than 126 species!), and is home to the spectacular 205-foot art deco Singing Tower carillon. Time your visit so you can enjoy the twice-daily concerts from this amazing 60-bell landmark. If you enjoy dramatic vistas (and a lifetimes worth of adrenaline in a single outing), head for Wallaby Ranch: Davenports very own hang gliding park! At the opposite end of the adrenaline spectrum, you could head to the Flower Power Floral School and spend an afternoon learning to coax flowers and foliage into spectacular bouquets arrangements. If golf is your chosen form of recreation, Davenport puts you on the links with some of the most affordable green fees in the Sunshine State. Highlands Reserve Golf Club is a well-manicured course suitable for all handicaps (unlike some of the more well-known clubs in Florida). Should you fancy something a wee bit more challenging, visit Southern Dunes Golf and Country Club. Green fees and cart rentals offer tremendous value, although you just might make up for it in the number of balls you lose or decide are unplayable (the course features LOTS of water oh, and gators, too). In addition to all of its family-friendly pursuits, Davenport offers a truly impressive array of vacation accommodations and holiday rentals to fit almost any sized family, group, or budget.
